“A perfect getaway”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

We re-visited the Hotel recently.

We were upgraded to another House to stay in (No 25/26) as the House we were supposed to stay was being renovated.

Much of the property remains unchanged although there is now some changes at the management, and the chef - which has its own positive attributes. The menu has largely been provencial, though with some special request, they were able to accommodate any special requests.

The Terrace above has been completed (it wasn't there at our last visit), and the sunrise view is breathtaking. Come every summer I hear, there is a jazz performance - which has been captured on CD and played in every room on arrival. Magical! (BTW, the CD can be purchased from Centrale at E10 a piece.)

The bathrooms have certainly kept up with times - and is a welcome. The beds as comfortable as they have always been.

The staff - now, that a special mention. Truly an exceptional team of staff - from the time we arrived in our large vehicle which they parked valet for us - to the check in, and to any other queries we may have of the property or Provence in general. Very helpful I must say.

If there ever was a difference to our visit, it is always the staff that made the difference.

Our only regret was that we didn't have enough time to stay and enjoy the property.

Also, we took the suggestion of a previous comment on dining at another restaurant (St Romaine) directly opposite the Hotel ..... we liked the sunset view better than what was served. Though, really, no comparison for what we pay.

Room Tip: Book in advance and communicate with the excellent staff at the Hotel.

What an incredible hotel...made of several village houses entirely redecorated with an amazing taste and offering the most magnificent views over the Mont-Ventoux and closeby wineyards. The attention to details is everywhere and the staff makes you feel at home from Check-in till the end of your stay. You won't miss Jessica, the ponytail girl...she's everywhere from breakfast till dinner and makes crillon le brave even more exceptional ! A must If you can afford the budget and wish to enjoy an unforgetable stay.

Spent a glorious weekend here not long after the hotel re-opened after its winter break. Whilst we live only two hours' drive away, I had booked this break as a birthday treat for my husband and I was very glad we did. From the moment of driving up, being shown to our room by the friendly and welcoming staff, I was aware this was a special place. The room was spacious, light and comfortably furnished in a provencal style. The bathroom was also spacious with additional touches such as quality local toiletries. One of the main houses was out of service for refurbishment when we were there but no matter as I should think almost every room has a view of some kind. The garden area, terraces etc all add to the ambiance.

I was a bit worried about the dinner as reviews seemed mixed. But even on a busy Saturday night, the new chef seemed to be making the right impression and the menu was interesting. My fish was a tad overcooked but on the whole we enjoyed the meal. Sunday lunch the following day was excellent (and the fish was cooked perfectly)! We were fortunate enough to be able to take lunch on the terrace (in March!) and the staff were happy to set up tables to meet individual customer preferences (view, sun or shade etc).

In many ways, it is the staff who make a difference and I was pleased to note that the General Manager, Sebastian Pilat, was around, engaging with the guests - even fetching a cushion for me when I disappeared into a too comfy sofa!

I am definitely looking forward to returning here again one day.

As we would expect from a Relais & Chateaux property from the first time we stepped into the hotel until the moment our car pulled away we were treated with the utmost respect. We felt like honored guests.

Dinner at the restaurant (a renovated 1600/1700s goat stable), as well as breakfast and lunch in the lounge, were spectacular. Breakfast was enhanced by the visit of Garfield the cat who apparently lives there or nearby. The view is amazing. And the village is absolutely picturesque.

One of the highlights was simply the service of everyone there. Always with a smile and pleasant. My husband and younger daughter wanted to leave dinner early the second night we were there but were wondering if I could bring them dessert in the room. The staff instead arranged for dessert to be delivered to them and it was brought to them at the same time my older daughter and I got ours in the restaurant. My husband says the lady who delivered them was breathless from getting the desserts to them quickly (the hotel does not have an elevator, at least not in the area where we were, so she ran the food up two floors). These little extras are what make so many Relais & Chateaux properties so memorable. We would definitely return to Hotel Crillon le Brave.

Stayed in this hotel in oct 12, we were very lucky with the weather and with the hotel. From the website and reviews it seemed to be in the middle of nowhere so we only booked one night here during our vacation, what a mistake! The hotel is easily reached by car and is actually a whole hamlet overlooking some of the most gorgeous views of the Luberon. The hotel restaurant is also very good, and the bar provides a great setting for enjoying a glass of the chateux neuf du paupe wine. Our room was fantastic, a 2 bedroom suite, decorated very nicely, cool bathroom and great views. This hotel offers excellent value for money, was the least expensive stay during our 6 night trip in provence and cote azur, but one of our favorites, offering country-chic style and relaxation.staff is also very professional, helpful and friendly. Would love to go back!

This is a lovely hotel in a stunning position. Perched on a hill the hotel is located in the eponymous village. The hotel has expanded and now occupies 6 buildings within the small hilltop village which has been totally rebuilt in the last few years.

The reception staff were very helpful and we would recommend the hotel as a wonderful base for the area, including Avignon. We booked because the hotel was advertising special off season rates and the positive reviews. Its standard rates are expensive but they do have special rates at various times.

The hotel rooms are luxurious and the views over the olive trees and vineyards are wonderful. The rooms are large and the bed was very good with high quality linens. The double shower and large bathroom added to the sense of luxury.

But, and this is a comment made by others, the restaurant was most disappointing. The dining room is impressive and we had a table by an open fire on a cool November evening. There was a limited choice on what was an expensive set menu. Yes, we were there in off season and there were few guests so it is harder to offer choices. That does not excuse poor cooking. The food was very ordinary and the wines were expensive. Certainly not worth the price we paid (55 €) for the meal. As others have noted there are few local choices in the off season but a hotel with the claims to being a luxury destination needs to lift its game in this area.

Overall a recommended hotel but dine elsewhere.

We were very pleased to hear that this guest enjoyed her stay in Crillon le Brave late last year but we were of course very disappointed to learn that she had a less than satisfactory meal in our restaurant. We are very sorry for this and will continue to work to improve our performance.

We would like to point out that this visit took place during a short gap between the departure of our previous chef, and the arrival in 2013 of Jerome Blanchet, our talented new Head Chef. Jerome has worked at Four Seasons Provence and most recently for five years, was the Executive Sous Chef at the Hotel Negresco in Nice where he was instrumental in helping Chante Cler Restaurant achieve two Michelin stars. We are delighted to have attracted one of France’s most promising young chefs to lead our restaurant in the months and years ahead.

We would invite this reviewer and all of our previous guests to visit us again in 2013 to experience Jerome's great new cuisine. In addition, from May, we are opening a fun rustic alternative, Bistrot 40K specialising in all produce drawn from within 40 kilometres of Crillon le Brave.

We stayed here as a family in July 2012. The Hotel and location is wonderful. We flew into Marseille and drove to Crillon le Brave (1.5 hours) I wish we used SatNav though as we got a little confused out of Marseille airport but once on the right track the hotel is well sign posted and easy to find. The hotel is a beautiful standard and so chic. We stayed in an annexe of the hotel (no lift) but we were away from everyone else and it was an easy climb to the restaurant and pool. Restaurant and food was exquisite and the breakfast wonderful. we also tried other restauruants in the village and wine tasting. Reception are very helpful when planning excursions and Mont Ventaux is well worth the drive (dont go if you hate heights) Chateau neuf de pape is only 20 minutes away and the wine tasting and lunch is a must. You must book your spa massage before you travel as they book up so quickly and although there is nogym, walking, the pool and the hotel bikes will keep you fit, plus they will loan you the helmet, chains and maps of the town. We will be returning in 2013

Room Tip: All rooms are wonderful but as it is an old building there are plenty of stairs, ask for a ground fl...
