I really have a special spot for Mona Vale Beach. There's so much to like. From the north, there is the little and quaintly named Bongin Bongin Bay, which is not very safe for swimming due to the steepness of the shore. But if conditions are just right, there is a great surf wave on the rock shelf at the southern end. On the point separating the Bay from the beach proper is a terrific and well-used ocean pool, with lighting.
But my favourite wave is just south of the point. There is an occasional left breaking wave coming in over the rock shelf, a current in between and a consistent right breaking into it. There are several spots further down the beach as well. There is an active surf club in summer, and plenty of parking. What more could you want on a nice day?
