“Sunday Night Walking Street Markets - a must do in Chiang Mai”

Just as others have said this is a fun night out and not to be missed as about five Streets are closed to traffic for the event. I would say arrive about 6.00 pm so it is easy to get around then. You may find it difficult to see the whole lot in one night so we are going back next weekend to find even more interesting items. Some of the local handcrafts are really quite good however there are lots of the same - wood work, clothing, bracelets, leather, materials, silk, toys, and art work. Enjoy the local musicians playing their instruments and support the vision impaired band by giving a donation.
Even the temple grounds are open with stalls selling a huge variety of food and cold drinks. We tried a "Pad Thai Omelette" which cost about $1.00 AUD so cheap eats are on offer if you are game. Should you get tired then you can sit down and have a foot or shoulder massage as they are everywhere. It is easy to get a red truck or tuk tuk home afterwards. A fun night!

“Sunday Night Market - Chiang Mai”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

This was something I'd been looking forward to for a long time and it didn't disappoint! It was a very large market with several streets branching off from it. It was especially pretty after dark when all the stalls were lit up but get there early, as by 7 pm, you can hardly move for all the people! I started at 4 pm, when the stalls were just beginning to set out their wares. I was staying in a hotel on a soi just off the main street of the market and if you are going to do that, make sure you have a good landmark to find that Soi again, as by the time I got back to that area, there were tables set up that weren't there before and i had a very hard time to find the soi to my hotel! The landscape changes a lot from beginning to full blown market!

I enjoyed looking at all the different things and the street food was abundant and fun to try. There was a lot of music and a festive air. It was fun and prices were good. It is well worth seeing, but come early!

“Buy your pressies here”
Reviewed March 4, 2013 via mobile

An amazing array of goods to select from and it seems to go on forever. This is the biggest weekly market in Chiang Mai.
Go early, around 5pm, when it's less crowded, by 9pm you will be walking single file and in one direction!
As well as the 'normal' stuff there are some 'hill tribe' items, it' amazing where they get their ideas from to make something different.
Don' forget to barter, sometimes you forget because some items are so cheap anyway.
You cannot help coming away with at least two or three items, great for those small pressies for friends and neighbours back home.
A great place, with literaly hundreds andstalls and eating places.
Highly recommended.

“Very crowded...but if in town on a Sunday not to be missed.”

A colourful market but packed to overflowing with locals and tourists alike. Stretching at least one kilometer up Rajdamnoen rd closed specifically for this weekly event and finishing in front of Wat Phra Singh.Try the deep fried Grasshoppers and such like. Browse the local crafts. As a tip, plan to have dinner in one of the many "Wats" which sell an amazing range of food, beatifully presented and as to be expected very cheap.
