After a 9 hour drive from Calais we arrived around 5.30 pm to be welcomed by Nick who showed us around, we booked the front balcony room but we were shown another room to see if we liked that one more, we settled on the balcony room which was large with an ensuite, armchairs and a chaise long with views over the river and old bridge. We went to the guest kitchen/dining room and Nick made a cup of tea for us which we had with some yummy french cookies, we were given our key and left to settle in and have a nice hot shower. As we were exhausted we had a quick walk around the town and decided to get a takeaway and eat back at Pont vieux in the guest kitchen. We had a great nights sleep in the very comfortable bed and woke refreshed ready for breakfast which was in Nick and Marys very large kitchen, the long table was full with croissants , pain aux chocolate, yoghurts, breads and jams, brioche and freshly prepared fruit salad, we were offered boiled eggs too. We went for a Sunday morning walk and made use of the kitchen facilities for a lunchtime snack. In the afternoon we did some reading and used the wifi and explored the riverside garden despite the rain. We ate at the Hotel Emeraud in the evening which was only 5 minutes away over the bridge(.see separate review) We popped in Chez Eric's bar opposite for a quick drink and stayed 2 hours!, Eric from Mauritius kept us entertained with his tales as it was very quiet with everyone leaving town for the bank holiday. We enjoyed our 2 night stay in Confolens and would recommend you stay here , you won't be disappointed.
