“Disappointed”
Reviewed December 27, 2012

We obviously did something very wrong when we stayed at Middleton Cottage for 3 nights. The key was left on the outside table when we arrived so we let ourselves in. We happened to run into Phillipe on the first afternoon and for the remainder of our stay we saw no-one. We made our own bed, emptied the bins daily and pegged our towels out each night - because there were no clean towels provided.
When we viewed their on-line advertisement we were lead to believe that the cottage was close to the ocean - be aware that The Blue Room looks out onto the chemist car park - it is not conducive to a relaxed atmosphere.
Port Elliott and Goolwa were fabulous and are worth a visit,

Dear Jill, thank you for your feedback, we are certainly sorry that you feel that way. After operating for over 5 years & meeting so many wonderful & appreciative guests, this review comes as a real shock.
We would just like to clarify a few points; we did phone to let you know that we would not be on site for your arrival & arranged with you, for the key to be left out.
We also delivered ‘complimentary’ drinks & cheese to you in person on your first night, so indeed, we did greet you.
You may remember our discussion at that time, we clarified that you had chosen and booked our ‘Room Only’ option, where breakfast is not included. Subsequently, you did not see us as our guests normally would when we deliver & serve breakfast. This absence of our presence may have been interpreted as neglect, when in fact it was the result of choosing a ‘Room Only’ (no breakfast) booking option.
We also offered to change your booking to include breakfast, whereby it would have been delivered to your room or served to you in the comfort of our guest dining room, but we did not hear back.
Regarding service, had we known that you particularly wanted your bed made every day, bin emptied every day & fresh towels every day, although not common practice in B & B’s, we most certainly would have provided you with this service.
Finally, yes the blue room does overlook a tiny 12 car carpark. It is also surrounded by magnificent mature trees full of abundant birdlife. The Blue Room courtyard was fenced intentionally in a way so that our guests could enjoy these beautiful trees & the sea view in the distance. We are sorry that you only saw the carpark & not the trees and the beautiful sea, as many of our guests have and enjoyed.
We would be happy to discuss this further, please feel free to give us a call.

Arriving at the tourist info centre at 430pm on a Saturday in the school holidays with nowhere booked for the night could have proved difficult, however the TI ladies played a blinder and found us this fantastic B & B in Middleton, about 8 KMs up the road. Met by Phillipe, the owner, we were shown to our well appointed room, with separate shower and toilet facilities and immediatley this was followed by Phillipe returning with Kir and a delightful cheeseboard for 2 to welcome us - bliss.
The large bed was extremely comfortable and the local 'pub' provided wholesome fayre and great company for the evening and only 100yards up the road. We would certainly stay there again, book early, we were lucky that he had a vacancy. To cap it all go for the continental breakfast in your room in the morning - you will be pleased you did - truly a lovely memory!

Bright, beautifully decorated rooms with thoughtful touches such as 4 types of tea, lots of magazines and DVDs. One of the rooms has a large spa bath. Breakfast was delicious with fresh fruit and croissants. A great mix of French Riviera style decoration complemented with Australian roses. Philippe is a warm and welcoming host.
The beach is less than a 5 minute stroll away.

An ideal choice, we used Middleton Cottage as a base whilst we toured around the area. It is easily accessible, high standard, quiet and restful. Breakfast is good quality and substantial. The hosts are attentive but not obtrusive.

We stayed for only 1 night in January, but would have been very glad to stay longer. The rooms are spacious, bright, delightfully decorated, and freshly cut garden roses add an elegant touch. Breakfast is prepared for you and served in the shared lounge - choice of hot offerings or continental. The town is very handy to Victor Harbour to enjoy the sights and sounds of the beach community, and Middleton Beach itself is definitely worth a walk along the boardwalk.

We only stayed the one night at this lovely B&B but it was long enough to say what a great place it is. The hosts Phillipe [ who is French] and Paula were most welcoming, the location is walking distance to the beach, local tavern and a couple of restaurants near by. The cottage was easily found and although it is on the main road it is still very private. Each room shared a courtyard with a BBQ which made for a relaxing Happy Hour and Dinner. Only two rooms, the other occupied by our travelling companions was the perfect arrangement. The rooms are spacions and very well appointed and bathrooms immaculate. The fresh roses in the rooms were just beautiful and a nice touch. Amazing scent from them.
The B&B had a definite French feel to it, a delightful, hearty breakfast and the smell of freshly brewed coffee, relaxing in the breakfast room over the Sunday Paper all contributed to a very pleasant stay.
Thank you Phillipe for your hospitality
