We(me with my 3 friends) had gone to Kerala for a seminar and after finishing that we directly went to the hotel. It is a very small town in the hill with only hotel as "Golden peak". The place was very peaceful. We were given a cottage with a lawn. Clouds were playing with us in there. You have go down a bit for food. The food was great. The cheese omelet so testy that we ate 10 of that. Next morning we saw the sunrise from our bed. It was a overall fabulous experience. One last thing for foodies: the complementary breakfast was a buffet one and one can eat anything from the list of delicious foods as much as you want...........but you have to order that at previous night.

Room Tip: Every room is a part of a cottage. Try the room with a lawn in front of it. It was the best place to...

An interesting place for those who wish to see ruins due to deliberate neglect and lack of maintenance.
I have no words to explain the poor state of affairs in that beautiful place, which belongs to KTDC . It is a great shame that the people who are supposed to protect environment are inflicting such unimaginable damage to it.
Step inside the fenced property and you are greeted by beautiful cottages in ruins that are long-abandoned. The money spent, or rather wasted for building them; it is evident, was shamelessly ignored and new structures were built, which are in fact eyesores. If you take a walk to the forest behind the property , you will find plastic and garbage strewn all around probably from the kitchen. Without doubt it comes from the kitchen, because no tourist would bring numerous packets of Amul milk powder and ghee to that place (not to mention the loads of other garbage ).
At present there are three suites, three premium rooms and eight deluxe rooms. None of them provide a good view of the awesome mountainscape behind the property. Those in ruins were built with excellent view from the bedroom windows and the sit out.

The rooms are tidy with a cozy bed. There is a wall mounted TV, two side tables, a dressing table and chair, and a wardrobe. I wonder whether they provide pants and T-shirts to the guests, because I found one pair in the closet when I occupied the room. It might be still hanging there. Anyway I believe I am lucky that there were no skeltons inside.

The friendly security man Hiralal ( the only friendly, helpful person in that property) told me that a leopard frequently visits the valley behind the property to eat the leftovers from the kitchen. From the quality of the food served, I think it might be having plenty to eat and might be too sick to be so helpless and desperate, or might be mentally sick to eat something knowing that it can make him sick.
The bill is great even though the food is poor ( Rs.40 for a scoop of plain rice, Rs.150 for chicken curry ( two pieces ), Rs.150 for Chicken fried rice). The banana fritters served as evening snack is indeed very tasty. Breakfast is complimentary and is served rather generously. Try the room service number and consider you are lucky if somebody attends the call at the first try. Dinner was room served, but it took ages to get a cup of ice cream. After numerous attempts to try remind them of it, the attentive and efficient security man Hiralal came to my help and he brought it immediately ,running and panting.
God bless the poor leopard and Hiralal.

This place is the only hotel in the area, and is government run. Unfortunatly, we didnt think much to the accomodation. The room was grubby, but i must say the bedding was fresh and of good quality , unlike the towels, which were stained and threadbare. We stayed in a bungalow, which had beautiful views, but it was misty during the time we were there. All rooms have a tv, but unfortunately only a few local channels, nothing in English. The bathrooms have only one hot tap by the boiler, the water in the shower and sink is cold, which is a very bizarre set up. The bathrooms are nice and clean, and seem fairly new. The restaurant is grubby, with a very limited choice of food. However, when we did get our meals they were nice, with the staff cooking things not on the menu for my young son. There is nothing to do once it is dark, and the night we were there, there was a power cut. Luckily we were all in bed watching tv. We waited for 30 mins for the generator to come on, and then rung reception to find out when the power would be back on, but we got no reply. The power did not come on again till 7 30am. When i spoke to the manager about this, especially that it was pitch black, withno emergency lighting, so very dangerous with a toddler, he was not interested at all. I asked him why no one came to bring us candles, a very common practice in india, with its numerous power cuts, he again said he was sorry but it was not his fault, and they did not think to bring us candles. Breakfast is ordered in advance, and also the time you will be eating. Breakfast is basic, but it was perfectly fine. The one thing that stood out was that Ponmudi is above a huge tea plantation, so i thought there would be local tea. Wrong....this is India after all, and the tea was instant Tata tea from a vending machine!!! To be honest, if I was ever in Ponmudi, i would just stay during the day and stay somewhere else.

I just visited golden peak , ponmudi.
I must say. I was very apprehensive after reading the previous review here on tripadvisor. Still we went. The weather was foggy and it was drizzling. It did clear out the next day as we could view the surroundings and the valley. Serene. Glad this is the only resort there as there is less pollution and wastes. The rooms are spacious and clean with clean toilets. The cottages are eqipped with tv and cable.
They do not have room service and yes food is a little issue as u need to order way in advance and the menu is very very limited. Thankfully it was tasty food. Basic rotis and curry. Nonveg is there again limited to chicken.
Again we had gone on a onam weekend.
So I guess the the crowd. The resort was fully booked.
The staff and service was very very average.
Overall I must say a pleasant stay. Peaceful.
There is nothing much to do.a small hike and stuff.
I would definitely go bk but surely with sufficient snacks in my bag .

Stayed at this resort for a 1 night stay with my family. You have travel around 60 Km from trivandrum to reach this place and roads were in good shape during my travel.Even though the location is good and very quiet this resort needs to improve a lot on the service it provides to the customers.Initially they told that all rooms are full and on further request they informed that 1 room is vacant. So i got into a room and and it is just an average room with no proper ventilation.Food provided by the so called restaurant(Orchid??) is not at all tasty and it seems the chef has a tendency to put too much oil to whatever he touches. Also the options we have is very limited say Chicken Biriyani is the only option for lunch and if you don't like it then we have to starve as there is no other shops/restaurant near by.I wont mind the cost if the food was tasty, but unfortunately it was not at all good and they charge too much for it. would say a couple of staffs at the restaurant was very pleasant.I think the resort lacks staff and it is poorly managed may be the disadvantage of being a government owned resort. Also nothing much to do outside the resort other than having a good walk enjoying the nature .
