The mountain is really breathtaking when you wake up early and see the sun on it. No wonder this area ha become a popular tourist destination.

Brilliant hike from the church. You certainly do not need a guide for this if you are fit. Park in the church car park and the path is very clear from there. It took us around 5 hour return trip (including breaks) and was well worth it. Stunning views and terrain.

After a long, steep climb in 32 degrees, we reached the view point of the glacier below mount Kazbeg. The route is clear and very busy. It can be difficult terrain at times, so walking boots and poles are advised. Climb time from the gergeti church was 2 1/2 hours and 1 1/2 hours descent.
Very well worth the effort for amazing unrivalled views.

We reached the peak on August 13, 2019 and it was a real adventure trip, technical climbing with a group of mountaineers of Iran.

I took a day trip from Tbilisi and this was covered alingwith few other places on the way like Ananuri etc.

Its a nice place, unfortunately we had a overcast day wil lots of snowfall and hence could not see the peak. Only thing I didn't like was the 4 wheel ride which is to be honest just a trap to make money from tourists.
