Great place to stay it had all we needed and more for our break, log burners are so relaxing for the evenings!
Lovely view from the kitchen with the morning coffee then loads of local walks and places to visit, will definitely be going back.
This cottage is delightful - really comfortable and spotlessly clean. The location (in the village of Ireshopeburn and NOT in Cowshill) is totally quiet and peaceful and there is a view of the moors from the dining room window.

We (2 adults plus dog) stayed here for 6 nights in Aug 2015 (SORRY for the delay in posting our review Dave).
Although we stayed in August we weren’t lucky with the weather but were very lucky to have chosen such a lovey cosy cottage. The log burners ensure that you are cosy and toasty even during the coolest of evenings. So cosy in fact, that we had hoped to return to the cottage during the winter months but sadly circumstances prevented us from doing so.
This Cottage is one of the nicest that we have stayed in and as dog owners we have stayed in many. It is both finished and equipped to an excellent standard and unlike many cottages we have experienced, has both very comfy beds and a kitchen that encourages you to cook and eat in, in front of one of the lovely log burners.
Don’t let the fact that the cottage is located on an 'A' road put you off as the road isn’t that busy and there was no problem with traffic noise. Add to that, excellent walking and cycling straight from the door, plus well maintained access during the winter months and you have a great all year round holiday retreat.
The area is very hilly so if you are looking for challenging walks and/or cycle rides (secure storage available), on or off road, the area has them in abundance. If however you prefer something more gentle, then again there are plenty of opportunities within the surrounding areas.
A 3 min drive or 25 min stroll along the main road, with picturesque views all around, brings to you to St John’s Chapel where you will find the Chatterbox Cafe, a pleasant and friendly stop off for a snack or even a full meal. Muddy boots, dogs and cyclists all made very welcome with bike hire also available.
If you enjoy cycling but are concerned about the hills, then there are several places locally where you can hire e-bikes.

In the cottage you will also find an abundance of information leaflets, book and maps covering the local attractions and eateries.
Highly recommended.

Outstanding cottage. Walking, cycling, pubbing, relaxing, getting away from it all. The local people are superbly friendly too. Brilliant
Stayed at weekend in this lovely cottage - facilities were up to date and spotlessly clean. Comfortable and very nicely done. Great walks easily accessed. Beautiful views. Highly recommended. Will go again.
This deceptively spacious cottage has been refurbished and beautifully decorated to an extremely high standard whilst maintaining all the character and charm befitting its stunning surroundings. There are fabulous walks in the luscious countryside to be had for both the gentle stroller and the more serious rambler, with friendly local hostelries and village stores & cafes within easy reach. Idyllic.
It's many years since we'd been to Weardale and we'd forgotten what a gorgeous spot it is - including the drive there over the moors. Nestled in Ireshopeburn we couldn't have made a better choice of accommodation. All we needed for an autumn weekend - leafy walks and a wood burning stove to return to! Such a cosy, comfortable weekend retreat - loved it. Just a shame we had to come home!
