Lava Café has got a perfect location to visit Mount Bromo. The place has got various trekking tour options as well as good accommodation options. We stayed in the most budget option which is a small clean room with a double bed with shared hot shower bathroom facilities which is what you really need. If you pay a little more you can a have nice big room with a bathroom. The room prices are including breakfast or without as you wish. Breakfast was open buffet had egg, tea, coffee, salad, fruit and fruit juice. They had a restaurant with a good selection of food which we really enjoyed it. It’s definitely a professionally run hostel and they provide what travellers need!

Cafe Lava is in a perfect location for exploring Mt Bromo. We met many people who stayed further away and were frustrated. We stayed in both the standard and superior rooms - the standard was fine, obviously the superior was better. Wouldn't recommend the economy room as it is VERY small. The included breakfast is also good and the dinner menu is good (I loved the chicken sate). You can book a jeep for viewpoint 1 from the hotel or you can just walk one hour (all uphill) to viewpoint 2. We stayed 2 nights so we did one each which was good (viewpoint 1 is VERY crowded). Walking to the crater from the hostel is easy.

Room tip: standard or superior room only

Despite some reviews saying it's over-priced, I found the (approx) USD20/40/50 rooms all good value, considering that you're at one of the most out of the way & spectacular & unique destinations in the world. Seriously, would you complain about paying $40 for a nice room on the lip of a spectacular volcano?! A once in a lifetime, why count the beans?!
What's more, the staff were extremely helpful in arranging all my needs while there, including being able to do stuff off the usual tourist plan. The food was great (best Gado Gado ever!) & the location (50m) from the edge) was great. So my vote goes to this place, give it a try!

Room tip: Check the next room type up - u may find it worth the upgrade.

Was staying there because the other Lava View hotel was booked out. But the room was clean and newest, nice simple room, got hot fresh water. Perfect place to stay if you want to explore Bromo mountain close by to the place where you stay. Nice ambience of restaurant, good simple breakfast. If you want to rent the jeep for sunrise they will help you to find. Friendly staffs, an definitely will come back again soon! Cheers.

Value for money
Clean effective room
Relatively warm shower - bathroom had shampoo, soap etc
Simple tasty food
Friendly staff - alot of smoking indoors in reception

Hint
Pick up system in jeeps at 4am all a bit random (nothing to do with hostel) but all worth it for the views!
