This is a busy pub as there are not that many alternatives close by and the food/drink are pretty good and not expensive. Probably best to book
Our experience was good - good "pub food" (beware the generous portions) and friendly service. Overall, a good experience

What a disappointment, Sunday lunch was awful, the thinnest gravy I have ever seen , frozen roast potatoes and Yorkshire puds and the meat looked like it came out of a packet , it was a bank holiday and very busy but for £12 I would expect a lot better!

Popped in here as we were passing and about to set off back to Devon and very hungry. despite being very busy they managed to give us a table in the garden, with a lovely view of the castle. We were warned there would be a 20min wait for food, we ordered Steak and chips, it came sooner than we thought, steak was cooked perfectly and very tasty, the chips, oh my word they were amazing. Very lovely meal. only down side was getting stung by a Wasp just as food arrived.

Visited the Carew Inn several times for Sunday lunch, have found by experience that you need to book your table at least the day before!
You have to check in at downstairs bar first, have always eaten on first floor, service is friendly and fast with meat and roasts on the plate and veg and gravy separate, don't be afraid to ask for more veg or gravy but normally portions are good.

Very pleasant staff, although we did wait for nearly an hour before our food arrived. When the food did turn up it was very average and nothing special at all. The children's meals were particularly over cooked and oily. The car park is small and was full when we arrived but there is parking across the road at Carew Castle.
