“Wonderful views!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013

Although the hotel is a little bit far from the city of Punta del Este ( but if you have a rented car it's not a problem), it has fantastic views of the lagoon and the shoreline. The rooms are really specials as they have a lot of space, besides the king size beds, the same views and modern TV sets with lot of channels. Also wi-fii all over. The restaurant has great service and great food.
Nice pool and fitness center.
The only critic could be the decoration, as some people like and others don't. Well, it's an art hotel.

Room Tip: All the rooms have a fantastic view, some view the lagoon, others the small farms around. All are su...

Dear Mr,

Thank you for your review in tripadvisor!

First of all, it was a pleasure you had chosen Las Cumbres for your stay in Uruguay.

As you have seen, the location of the Hotel plays an important role in Las Cumbres experience since it gives the sensation of being closer to Heaven. It is required to be a bit far away from the down town in order to provide a clam, unique and unforgettable stay.
However, as you have already displayed, with a rented car this is not an issue at all!.

Furthermore, let me tell you that we are really proud to know that you have enjoyed your stay in all aspects from the equipment of the rooms to all our facilities.
I absolutely agree with you that our restaurant not only provides a great service but also high quality food.

Regarding the decoration, I strongly believe that the Hotel's charm and fame is due not only to the priveligious location but also to the unique components that it counts.

As you may have seen, in the main house as in all the rooms there are
many pieces that belong to a special Art and Antiques collection
brought from the owner's travels. These are displayed in
the same state that they were brought since we think that it is a way
to invite our guests to think/imagine the stories behind them.

We are grateful for the high grade given and the quality of the review itself!

Look forward to receiving you in the near future!
Happy New Year!!

Kind regards,

This hotel has lots of character and fantastic views of the lagoon and shoreline from the hotel and the bedrooms. However, these can only go so far in creating a great overall experience. My bedroom (Bosco) was very large with a fantastic view from the balcony. However, the arrangement of furniture within the room had not been thought through. There was a very small TV in one corner, meaning it was not really possible to see it from the bed or the sofa. The bathroom was also tiny and again, it felt like it had been designed by someone who had never actually had to use it. The breakfast was good but I was the only person in the restaurant and the service was incredibly slow. I was there for only one night so I enjoyed the positives and had relatively little time to foucs on the negatives. However, if I go back to Punta del Este, I will be staying somewhere else.

We loved the place 15 years ago, and with this memory went for a week last month. It is a little bit far from the trendy La Barra and Jose Ignacio but still special if you like views and cozy , romantic rooms. Forget about clean, modern. Everything here looks vintage...including the air condition, very noise...The hotel has a good and very expensive restaurant. A nice swimming pool but NO service at all. The weather was too hot and there was nobody to take orders for drinks there. The breakfast is just avarage for the price (it's included in a 300.00usd rate, one of the less expensives but if you want eggs, or an expresso, have to pay for...) but again, service is slow and it seems people stay busy cleaning tables for lunch while we are still having breakfast. Staff is always very nice (Fabrizio helped us renting a car) making reservations for restaurants, etc.. bikes availabe with no cost. We had massages at the Spa, which is very good, specially with Josephina. Free wi-fi.

We stayed for a few days and although the property has amazing views and the restaurant in the evening has great food. The rest needs a total update
For example
The rugs were filthy in the rooms, broken furniture and the shower had mould growing over the wall
the gym was a joke, the equipment was old and dirty
The covers on the restaurant tables are never washed and in general the place feels grubby
This hotel has potential but needs a lot of money spent on it . I would not return

Dear Guest,

Thanks for your review in tripadvisor!

We really appreciate this feedback since our main purpose in
tripadvisor is to be in constant touch with the opinions of our
guests.

Let me tell you that it always has been the Holjevac Family's interest
to offer to worldwide travellers a different option in Punta del Este
based on the coexistence between the past and the present.

Moreover, they look forward to make a distinctive recognition
specifically focused on the service and close attention to our dear
guests.
All this implies a great deal of dedication in the formation of
present and future employees that here in Las Cumbres is regarded as a
priority above the construction.

Mr. Holjevac (Arquitect Holjevac) who is one of the owners and who
played a key role in the construction of Las Cumbres, has the pleasure
to dedicate time to his travels and as a consequence he has a great
knowledge of Hotels around the world.

Being said this, he does not deny the useful advantages of having
modern furniture but he strongly believes in rescueing this antiques
and old furnitures with the risk thay they have any flaw.

As you may have seen, in the main house as in all the rooms there are
many pieces which belong to a special Art and Antiques collection
brought from the owner's travels.

Many of this pieces (may be furnitures, costumes..) are being displayed in
the same state that they were brought since we think that it is a way
to invite our guests to think/imagine the stories behind them.

It can be said that our charme and essence is partly due to the
privilegious location and the unique components of the Hotel itself.

Although, I have to say that there are huge plans for the future in
terms of renovation and expansion.
There areas such as the gym that are under revision in order to update
as quick as possible.

It is my main wish to explain you that we take this matter very
seriously and there is a team behind this that are taking control of
the situtation investing time, ideas and money.

Look forward to receive you in a near future and hope to offer you the
stay that Las Cumbres is known for.

Kind Regards,

First time to Uruguay and of course to the hotel. Spent Christmas through New Years there. Although in need of a facelift, the charm, food and service make up for a lot. The New Years party that they throw was awesome!! A bit far away from town and certainly from Jose Ignacio, but thats o.k., you'll find yourself not wanting to leave much anyways.

Room Tip: The suites facing the lake and ocean are quiet and very private.

We are back to Las Cumbres once again. If you try it once, you will want more... Each room is different, but always well decorated, large, very comfortable. Staff is very good, service is outstanding. We took a low-season package, including breakfast and one full meal in the rate, which is pretty convenient at this time of the year. You can have a perfect dinner it the hotel's restaurant, have a good wine and relax without driving up to Punta's restaurants - something like 10Km. Hotel has a good spa, lots of books and DVD's and indoor and outdoor areas where you can seat and relax. Or just enjoy the outdoor jacuzzi in rooms like "Punta" or "Sol".

Room Tip: If you are looking for romance, that's the place to go.
