We went to see the elk a few nights ago. What a great experience all around. The park rangers out there were directing traffic and they were really nice to talk to as well. Of the highlight would be the elk. This was an awesome experience. We look forward to going again.

Just got back from my first trip to Cataloochee Valley and it will not be my last. Only had time for a quick afternnon trip. Saw 7 bull elk and 15 cows and calves. The bulls were bugling and herding their cows. Turkeys were out everywhere. Can not wait to go back and see all of the buildings, camp and hike the trails. Not crowded like Cades Cove. The road was curvey, but was not a problem.

I have gone here a few times in the last few years. It is a good place to relax in the beuaitful
Smokey Mountains! Fill up your gas tank because there is NOTHING else around.....and you may want to pack a meal or snack if you intend to hike. The best time to see the elk is around sun rise and dusk. They are huge and you can get (kind of) close....not to close though, they can run quickley and no one wants to be chased by an elk. Although it would be a great vacation story.
The best time to go is in the fall so you can see all the beautiful fall colors.

Great area to view wildlife. People coming into this area of the GSMNP needs to take the time to stay a few hours. Just wait to see what comes out of the forest. Climb up in the barn and sit on the hay loft away from the hurry. Breath the air, see your life just slow down, and the stress flows off of you like the stream behind you.

Fishing & Camping are great!

Visited this place early October 2011. The bulls were bugling and gathering their harems of cows. Such a wonder site to see and experience.
