Domaine de Givre

A wonderful setting in a converted barn, in a 15th century farm house, plenty of room to sit and relax. Lovely hosts, Veronique and Ronan made us welcome, and explained about the reconstruction of the barn, main house and outbuildings. The bed is comfy, clean and welcoming, the ensuite very modern except for the 11th century door! One of the few places in France with tea and coffee making facilities, and the best breakfast we have found in France so far ...

We stayed 2 days in this domaine and felt really the real French way of live. Veronique and husband have done a very nice job of creating this lovely place. At the same time, the owners let their visitors dicover themselves the property and will help when asked. This is what we like . The accomodation is fantastic, a good combination of heritage with modern comfort. Lots of recommendations for food. This is a place I could live .... thanks for a lovely stay !! The location and hosts were superb. Veronique and Ronan were lovely people who went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. There are two bedrooms, separate to their main home, in a renovated part of the farm buildings. The room we had was on the ground floor, and was full of character. We ate breakfast in the main building which was their home. It was very plentiful! Veronique and Ronan were knowledgeable about the local area and history of places to visit, which was very useful. Chinon is a beautiful town, with lots of places to eat and drink, and a beautiful chateau. A must see is the chateau at Azay le Rideau which though small, is charming, and in the middle of a beautiful village. If you are looking for a good location, somewhere quiet, and with great breakfast and lovely hosts, don't look any further than Domaine de Givre.

Room Tip: If you stay in the ground floor room, there can be noise from above when people are running the show...

We stayed 2 nights in this charming place, full of history. The owner has done a lot work to renovate it but maintain some of its original character. The rooms are separate from the main house – I think it used to be a stable! We’re staying in the ground floor room – very spacious with separate toilet and nice shower, tastefully decorated with the original fireplace. It’s very quiet at night (except noises do come from the room above when they’re taking a shower/ using the toilet or moving chair etc, but bearable). WiFi is free but reception is only possible outside which is understandable given the distance from the main house and the thickness of the stonewall. Outdoor furniture available so you can relax there. The pool looks great on a hot sunny day, but it’s end of September so we didn’t have a chance to use it. The breakfast was amazing – fresh fruits, boiled eggs, different types of hams, cheese, jams, bread etc – as we generally have small breakfast, I feel bad that I couldn’t finish them all! The place is about 5-10mins drive to Chinon town.
