“Fantastic stay”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

We have literally just got home after 4 nights at the Brookhouse in Clapham. NO WONDER IT IS CALLED "CLAPHAM'S LITTLE SECRET". It was all we had hoped for and more. The food was of an exceptionally high standard and Alan could not have done any more to make us feel welcome.

We don't often say this but WE WILL BE BACK!! and we will recommend it to everyone we meet.

Room Tip: If you want a bath choose White Scar room but if you want a shower pick the Pen Y Gent room. Don...

This is the second time I have stayed here, this time treating my Mum to a birthday trip away with dinner here being her special dinner during the trip. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Clapham now.

Alan continues to run a consistently high standard B&B. His rooms are clean and well-arranged and are also tastefully decorated in a very elegant style (if, as Mum pointed out, decorated in a very masculine style with dark colours - reds, golds, silvers, blacks and browns - not something that had struck me before since it is a style I like). The twin room was particularly well thought out since the bathroom has two parts to it - an anteroom with a wardrobe containing a couple of fluffy dressing gowns that we were really glad of since we arrived from our walk with plenty of time to spare before dinner, and then the bathroom itself. It adds a little extra sense of space and privacy when there are two people sharing a room who may not necessarily be a couple.

Food quality and presentation is definitely Alan's strong point with his culinary background showing through in the presentation. We were really impressed with dinner. It is very much a fine dining experience, as advertised, but prices are reasonable for that. It cost us GBP25 per person, including three courses and a glass of wine each, which is certainly more than reasonable for the dining experience. The only detractor was the fact that we were the only people there, but that isn't something that can be blamed on the restaurant itself. A lovely extra touch was a couple of boxes of trivia questions on the table which we had a bit of fun with while waiting for our starters - these were on the table at breakfast time too. Alan was also more than happy to adapt the gravy for me to ensure it was gluten-free.

Breakfast was of a similarly high standard. Particular mention goes to the quality flavoursome cut of bacon that we had a generous serving of and the extra effort taken to create a decorative pattern on the mushrooms (it has to be seen to be believed).

An elegant and stylish place to stay, especially if you appreciate a well-crafted and -presented meal.

Have just got back from a weekend stay at 'Brookhouse Guesthouse'. The guest house is located in the lovely village of Clapham. We were in walking distance to Ingleborough caves and trail and perfect location to climb Ingleborough, one of the 3 peaks. Lots to do and explore for all ages. The village has a welcoming pub, a couple of cafes and a village shop.
The owner, alan was helpful and friendly and we were able to check in much earlier than arranged.
The rooms were to a high standard. We chose to eat dinner at the Guesthouse both evenings and were so glad we did! Alan is an excellent cook with a genuine flair. I would certainly recommend the creme brulee! There is an open fire in the restaurant which creates a cosy and warm atmosphere, with no pressures to rush, we were able to chat and enjoy our wine after the meal. Breakfast, again, was superb, with great choice and plenty of it! Just what you need before attempting one of the 3 peaks or all of them.
We will definately be back again.

We know this area so well following many wondeful holidays in the Dales. Never stayed at Calpham but knew of it. The Brookhouse appeared to be getting good reviews so we decided to try it - two couples celebrating our wedding anniversaries.
What a wonderful find. The rooms were comfortable with firm beds and provided many of the added luxuries normally only found in top class hotels - fluffy dressing gowns, toiletries, sparkling white towels and much more. Breakfasts provided a good selection of cereals, fruit juices, fried goods a plenty (local) and whatever you wanted on toast and then more toast. Couldn't have asked for more (but if we had asked for it we would have got it!!)
The Brookhouse is also a restaurant and we ate there one of our two nights (couldn't get in the first night - fully booked by locals!!! Can't get a better recommendation than that). First class food, well cooked and well presented. I could go on but it will leave you less to find out for yourselves. Will we be back? Oh yes, most certainly. Will we be recommending it to our friends and family? Already done. Thankyou Alan

Room Tip: Only four rooms but take what you are offered - it won't make any difference. Amazing views all...

We know Clapham well so were not surprised by the wonders of the Three Peaks area and they certainly lived up to expectations despite Siberian conditions on the top of Ingleborough. However, this was our first stay at Brookhouse and we certainly hope it won't be our last as it lived up to all the very positive reviews we had read before our visit - lovely quiet, warm and comfortable room, friendly welcome and very special food. All in all it combines home comforts with a great sense of style. A really good mix!

Great guesthouse and hospitality. Welcoming, warm, cosy and clean. Well run by Alan who is very nice and a talented cook with impressive flair for flavours, such as raspberry Tia Maria or blackberry amaretto creme brûlées. Perfectly positioned for ingleborough and its cave.

Room Tip: All rooms have their own bath or shower room.
