“Travellers Rest. What a find.”
Reviewed June 27, 2012

Taking a drive from Cape Town we found a little gem called The Travellers Rest hidden in the village of Riebeek Kasteel. The host's of this restuarant and guest house, George and Michael, made us feel very welcome as soon as we arrived. The food and service was superb. I enjoyed 'Herb encrusted kingklip' on a bed of hot potato salad "so very succulant" and my husband enjoyed a very soft and tasty 'Lambs liver' with mash and veg. The starters looked very good but thankfully we left space for the desserts. These ranged from 'Amarula bread pudding to 'pavlova' and there is always something for the the chocoholics like my husband who declared his 'Chocolate fondant' the best chocolate dessert ever.
We were shown around the accommodation whilst there. What beautiful rooms and gardens, a perfect place for a week-end away from the city or even a wedding.
We will certainly return soon, with friends, to share our find with.

“Country charm with oodles of ambience”
Reviewed June 18, 2012

What a delight to find this restaurant tucked away in a corner of the trendy Riebeek Kasteel. We enjoyed a superb meal over lunchtime on Saturday. Highlights included delicious lamb's liver in a sauce so superb that I wanted the recipe; stuffed chicken breast wrapped in Parma ham and the ubiquitous burger - here made wonderful with a huge hand minced pattie and all the traditional add on's. Certainly a place I intend retruning to where the two hosts, George and Michael, made our stay a relaxed and generous one.
