We have just returned from a sublime winter's day lunch at the Royal Restaurant in Riebeek Kasteel in the heart of the Swartland. We were welcomed by the most generous of hosts, Maxwell Kriel who have been associated with the Royal Hotel and the Royal Restaurant for the last 10 years. The new owners of the last 11 years, Robert and wife Carmieda, have transformed this venue into the most beautiful and serene spaces in the Swartland. Chef Francois du Toit prepared one of his favourite dishes - a lovely chicken fillet wrapped in bacon and filled with peppadew and fetta served with a lovely mustard mash and lemony vegetables. Maxwell recommended the 2013 Kloofstreet Chennin Blanc to accompany this dish. What an experience!!! We enjoyed our visit so much that we decided to top it off with the Banana tart with peanut butter flavoured ice cream and berry compote. Heavenly!! We have also booked our table for five for the 2014 Christmas Lunch!! If ever you need to break away from the every day rush - treat yourself to beautiful surroundings, fantastic service and sublime food at the Royal Restaurant in Riebeek Kasteel.
