Impeccably prepared imaginative dishes. Polite and efficient service. Plan time to walk around Gigondas and visite the nearby Dentelles de Montmirail for a perfect day in Provence !

“truffles and more”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

Our group of 4 people ( 2 couples) visited Chateau de Beaucastel for winetasting and we were recommended to go for lunch at L'Oustalet. It was our 4th visit to this small restaurant and we had- again- a very good and delicious experience! The kitchen surprises us every time without overdoing things. The food is excellent, as are the wines and the wine-food combinations. To me this is a special place because there is something in the air, it is about devotion to their job without being pretentious. We were in truffleseason and ordered a.o. the ravioli with truffle, sounds simple and heavy, but the ravioli had a very delicate taste. There was another memorable dish with veal and truffle with a nice glass of Gigondas.
We had no dessert but coffee and friandises ( all very delicious and of course home made). If you go to Gigondas-which is a very lovely village where you can taste the Gigandas wines at the Caveau de Gigondas only a few metres away- have lunch at L'Oustalet if you really like to taste!

L'Oustalet has impeccable service, perfectly executed food, and an enviable wine list. This dinner was easily the most memorable during me week long trip to southern Rhone. I would have returned every night if I could! Dine here if you want to experience the best of the best. Hoping I get to return one day.

“Don't miss this restaurant”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

If you find yourself within a few hours of Gigondas, go out of your way to enjoy a lunch or dinner here! Everything about it is top notch. We've enjoyed many, many restaurants in France - this is one of a handful that are truly worth going out of your way to enjoy.

“A fine venue to taste excellent food and wine”
Reviewed October 12, 2012

We were recommended L'Oustalet by a friend, and it was well worthwhile the visit. Be aware this is not a casual lunch/dinner restaurant; it is a place to experience fine food and wine, and in this sense, is not like a formal Michelin *ed restaurant. It is a place to expand one's tastes and knowledge rather than being a fine meal. At least that's how it seemed to me, and how we experienced it.

It is a restaurant that you should book, and they advise you to look at their menu and wine list beforehand. They are happy to decant wines ahead of your visit, which gives you a sense of the place.

We were keen to try different wines, and the menu accommodates this, with wines by the glass. We chose, with the help of the English speaking sommelier, a glass to accompany each of the three courses we have, and they were fine compliments. The sommelier also took the time to tell us about each, and to offer some alternative tastes. Wonderful service, and the way good food and wine should be enjoyed.

Totally recommended...and we'll certainly return!
