This large, impressive, red and white lighthouse, is in need of a lick of paint. The sizeable building incorporates a museum, gift shop and cafe, though why as a public building, it closes on a Monday, is a mystery. You can also see the smaller and what was presumably the original lighthouse.
What is most striking and by far the best reason to visit here, is the sea itself, which surrounds the lighthouse in a large horseshoe. The Northwest coast is quite rugged and the incoming waves meet from several different directions. The spectacular greens of the water are a sight to behold. The shoreline has a number of cairns, which appear to defy the elements. There is also a pretty and well maintained shrine to some departed soul. Lanzarote is visible if you look straight across. More
