Our second stay and things have only got better. Refreshments when we arrived with wonderful views towards the hills. Great dinner in the elegant dining room and then a really comfortable night in the new addition, the cottage. The interior is in the same impeccable style as the main house and there is lots of room with 2 double bed rooms, 2 bathrooms and a large open plan kitchen/living area. All areas fully accessible for full time wheelchair user, and that, coupled with Stewart and Rosie's splendid hospitality made for a memorable stay, What more could we ask for. John and Phyllis

The owners make you feel welcome and Holmhill is a comfortable place to stay for a night or two. The beds are first class and a good breakfast awaits you in the morning. The lack of curtains that close might seem strange but the wooden shutters make a reasonable job of keeping out the light. I would have preferred two armchairs in the room rather than the metal garden table and chairs and a single armchair. Thornhill is a good base to explore the area and the Buccleuch and Queensbury hotel is an excellent local eatery. I would recommend Homhill with the proviso that their full room rate of £100 per night is in my opinion expensive for what you get, so look out for discounted rates.

Stayed two nights earlier this month, put quite simply there is nothing to fault about Rosie and Stewart's home. Thank you for the suggestion to have an evening meal at the Green Tea Room, it was excellent, well worth the short trip to get there. Next time we visit we shall have an evening meal with you at Holmhill, that is if I can bear to give June the chance to beat me again at golf.

This wonderful and homely property deserves far more than a brief visit. Dumfries and Galloway is an area of outstanding interest and natural beauty and is under stated by the Scottish Tourist Board. Stewart and Rosie are the perfect hosts and have made Holmhill into a perfect hideaway and 'away from it all' location for their many returning guests. The attention to detail in the bedrooms, lounge, dinning room and grounds are surely second to none and deserve the highest accolade possible. As much as I enjoy a full breakfast whilst on holiday I just had to wave the white flag of surrender at the full Scottish version. Rosie and Stewart also have expert knowledge regarding local places of interest that are worth visiting and are always at hand to share it with you. This indeed is a very, very special place to stay.

We stayed in the Carlyle room which had a great view over the front garden and big bathroom with separate shower and bath. We were made very welcome by Rosie and had a lovely cup of T with home made cake on arrival. Breakfast was excellent and locally sourced - the bacon deserves a mention as does the fruit and jams! The location is very pleasant, its lovely to sit in the drawing room with that welcome cup of T and we would definitely visit again.

Room Tip: Carlyle room has large bathroom with bath and separate shower . All rooms are lovely and quiet!

We had a three night stay in this wonderful place. From the moment we arrived we felt welcome we were greeted by Rosie who made us a brew and homemade cake & shortbread which was lovely after a long journey. The room was beautifully decorated to a high standard in a boutique style, a huge bathroom with large free standing shower and also large feature roll top bath. A small carafe of sherry provided was a lovely touch for a nightcap overlooking the gardens. Breakfast excellent choice and all home cooked to order - yummy. The area was also great with plenty of walks & historic castles. We would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone who is wanting a chilled place to stay with a warm welcome.

What a beautiful country house! The hosts were so welcoming and helpful therefore making the stay so memorable. The rooms were large and, clean and comfortable and the breakfasts were excellent with plenty of variety. Evening meals were provided on request and were equally enjoyable. We would not hesitate in staying here in the future and would recommend to anyone.
