We stayed here on the last two night of our honeymoon trip and were pleasantly surprised to see that they had laid out rose petals on the bed in our room for us! It was a very sweet detail!

Main areas: I LOVED the funky architecture and decor of the restaurant and main building! It is a very quirky place in a beautiful setting that makes you feel like you're in the countryside but only 20min from the SJO airport. The outdoor bar and dining area has a fantastic view over San Jose - we loved looking at the twinkling city lights over dinner. My husband thought it smelled a little musty and old, but it didn't bother me.

Room: We had El Cafetal - it is small but feels more private on the end of its own hallway. The HUGE bathtub was fabulous and the little balcony overlooked San Jose! You could definityly hear kids staying in other rooms running around and yelling in the echoing main room. The internet signal was also very weak in the room, so we had to go to the restaurant for email/browsing. Mostly, I loved the tiled bathroom and mural of coffee fields over the bed, and it was all the space we needed for two nights.

Food: Very good but a bit pricey. I especially loved the 2-3pm complimentary coffee and pastries at the bar - whatever the cookies/cakes were, they were amazing! I also bought some of their delicious coffee ($14/bag at the reception desk).

Activities: The hotel arranged a private guide to take us to Poas Volcano and Colinas de Poas canopy tour. GO TO THE VOLCANO EARLY! We left the hotel at 7:30am and were the first people to see the crater and lake before the clouds moved in and covered them up! The zipline was not as fun as others I've been on, which I think was mainly because of the crowd. It was a Saturday so lots of local families were there and we didn't get as much attention. A lot of the other offerings in the area (rafting, waterfalls, etc.) can be done in other parts of Costa Rica.

Overall, I would stay here again and recommend it as a stopover point when arriving to/departing from SJO. It's charming and quirky, and I really want to go back for the coffee tour!

Dear Laureno659; First of all congratulations on your wedding and I am so glad you could spend part of your honeymoon with us! We do indeed have very unique and unconventional design and architecture as you pointed out, "Main areas: I LOVED the funky architecture and decor of the restaurant and main building! It is a very quirky place in a beautiful setting that makes you feel like you're in the countryside"

I know you stayed int the "Cafetal", a wonderful room with exquisite views but as the walls are very thick sometimes the WiFi does not enter as well as we would like, but we are as we speak increasing the signal and system so this will not be an issue.
Thanks again for staying with us and I hope we can see you again soon- maybe the first year anniversary?

My husband and I stayed at Finca Rosa on the last two nights of our honeymoon and it was very beautiful. The coffee tour was well worth the money and was very interesting, our guide was very knowledgeable and welcoming. The food in the restaurant is very good as well and the staff are extremely friendly. Our room was Las Aves which was very nice but didnt have a view over San Jose and was not as spectacular as we were expecting. It is expensive but the pool area is amazing, the restaurant is lovely and it is by far the best hotel we have stayed in close to San Jose airport. We do intend to go back but would probably choose a different room to Las Aves next time. The bed however was by far the most comfortable we stayed in during our three weeks in Costa Rica.

Dear Amyp1952; Thank you for your review- it is always nice to hear about our affect on our guests. Also, like many others you remarked that "The bed however was by far the most comfortable we stayed in during our three weeks in Costa Rica.". We pride ourselves in the quality of the beds, the sheets and all the bedding because we know when you come back from a long wonderful day of rafting or hiking or working your way through the coffee plantation with our guide Ulises, that crawling into a wonderful bed makes everything finish with a great sensation of comfort and happiness.
Thanks for writing for others to read about us.

My husband and I stayed here the night we arrived in San Jose, then again for a couple of nights prior to our departure a week later. It is very convenient to the airport but is outside the city, sits on the side of a hill, and has a great view of the city below. We stayed in El Cafetal the first night, then in La Piedra for the last 2 nights. El Cafetal is a smaller room, but is very comfortable. We preferred La Piedra because of the nice sitting area which had screened windows that open, and because of the larger patio. We loved listening to the rain!

We took the coffee tour the day before we left, and it was really neat. I like coffee, but am hardly an expert. We both learned a lot of the entire process, and would definitely recommend the tour. The grounds are also pretty and one should walk around while there. We didn't get in the pool because it was raining most afternoons when we were free, but it did look inviting.

The food in the restaurant was also very good, and we never had a bad meal. We ate breakfast each morning and had dinner there.

The employees and service were exceptional! Edgardo was very helpful over the phone in getting our reservation and transportation arranged. Thank goodness we did not rent a car! A nice friend of ours who had traveled to Costa Rica multiple times recommended we hire a driver....this was the best advice!! Edgardo handled this for us too, and we had two of the nicest guys drive us around, Manolo and Xavier! They were full of lots of interesting info about the areas we visited and Costa Rica in general.

If/when we return to Costa Rica, we will definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: El Cafetal has a skylight in the shower which made it noisy when it rained, but this did not bother...

Dear Lisa; It is always so nice to hear from our guests about the service and kindness they receive from our staff. 100% of our staff and the owners are Costa Rican and we live in the area and we are very proud of our pueblo and our small hotel. When you mentioned that you were impressed with Manolo and Xavier and that the "employees and service were exceptional! Edgardo was very helpful over the phone in getting our reservation and transportation arranged." we were all very happy that you felt that way.
Thanks for writing in and for your sweet and kind comments.

I have stayed here several times during my visits to Costa Rica and it never disappoints! The hotel is very convenient for those flying into San Jose, as it is only a short drive to the property. I do not like staying in the main part (downtown) of the city (San Jose) as there is a lot of traffic and typically only chain hotels as well as lots of noise. This hotel provides an amazing experience for all sorts of guests from the excellent service/staff to the incredible food at the El Tigre Vestido restaurant to the great rooms. Each room is unique and the beds are VERY comfortable! The view from the restaurant is also truly remarkable as the property sits on a mountain. I participated in the coffee tour and cultural highlands tour. Both tours were unbelievable and our guides were extremely knowledgable and personable. We experienced things that we probably wouldn’t have even know about on our own. Organization between the staff, guides and outside locations visited was all seamless. Additionally, it is amazing to learn about the conservation and sustainability components of the property and how involved the owners, Glenn and Teri, are with their eco-efforts and engagement in giving back and supporting the local community. You get to really feel like you are giving back and having an amazing eco-experience without having to sacrifice the quality of your room and the property overall. Would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Costa Rica!

Room Tip: All rooms are unique and great, depending on the amount of people you have in your group. I stayed i...

Dear Dana; What a nice review and thank you for taking so much time to post it. I am also personally very pleased that you remarked upon and were impacted by our commitment to sustainable practices which include giving back to the community, conservation, organic coffee and so much more. For us, we never want to sacrifice the experience to anything, but rather want this kind of responsibility to be woven into the fabric of your total experience. We believe that companies who make their living from tourism need to help replenish, restore, recycle and reuse all of their materia prima so that it is sustained for generations to come.
Again thanks for writing in with your very positive comments.

We were here for 4 nights. We were two adults and three teenagers, so we had Villa Boyero, a two-bedroom, two bathroom villa with a small kitchen and a small sitting area. The hotel provided a fold-out bed; it was a little cramped for 5 but manageable. The property is really beautiful, full of fruit trees, incredibly lush plants everywhere. The kids were able to pick oranges and limes out of the trees and eat them, we say hummingbirds everywhere, and had a good time touring the coffee plantation. The hot tub was really nice, in a secluded area near the pool.
We did find that the inn is a little far from a lot of the trips we wanted to do -- rafting was a couple of hours away, for example, so we did some of our trips from our second location near Arenal instead. I think three nights would have been perfect; 4 days seemed a little too much. Our favorite trip wa the zipline canopy tour.
The restaurant was quite good, especially the breakfasts. We had a typical combination of beans, rice, eggs, plantains almost every day, but my youngest son loved the pancakes with tropical syrups as well.
We really liked this place ; the staff was exceptionally nice and helpful, and it is a very short ride from San Jose airport.

Dear Karinn; We appreciate your taking the time to write such a detailed description of your stay and that you had such a good time. There certainly are a lot of fruit trees and native hardwood trees here, including lots of exotic tropical plants and flowers. Your kids really did enjoy eating all the fruit.
Again, thank you so much for posting your comments.
For Costa Rica and in comparison to most other lodgings, our hotel is actually very centrally located to access all the activities we offer and your rafting trip, like all of the rafting rips in the country if you are not staying in that area take a little time to get there as the drive is through the mountains and valleys which are beautiful. For me, part of the beauty of the rafting rip is also the exquisite sights and views of the ride to the river.
We do recommend that our guests stay for at least 4 days so they can really see all the volcanoes, the coffee, the rafting, the cloud forests and the cultural elements that surround our coffee plantation.

We started our honeymoon in Costa Rica with three superb nights at Finca Rosa Blanca where, from our the moment of our greeting to our farewell, the fantastic location, beautifully kept property and first class staff created the perfect start to our special trip.

I could write an epic on this place, it's wonderful people, service and food, but I would hate to spoil it for anyone else who is fortunate enough to 'discover' it, other than to state the obvious - the coffee is out of this world!

If you go there be sure to make use of the masseuse service (I recommend the deep tissue massage and coffee scrub) :) it was amazing.

Thank you to all at FRB - we hope to be back at some point in the future.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Rosa Blanca Suite. It was stunning.

Dear Tomato Washbag; Congratulations on your wedding and also thank you for sending us your comments. I know how important the honeymoon time is and it always makes me so happy to read that our newly wed guests have started their new lives with us and had a spectacular visit. Our massage services are indeed really special, both Karina and Pablo are world class therapists. As a result of their fans and increasing interest in their therapeutic massages, we are building a new massage center ina very quiet place of the hotel with ample room and tranquility for our guests who want to melt away and release all the stress and anxiety that preceded their vacation and arrival to Costa Rica.
Again, thank you so much for posting your comments.
