What started as an idealic vacation for our family quickly turned sour on our arrival in Sint. Maarten/St Martin. The original hotel we booked was a disaster! THANKFULLY we found the Hotel Marquis and all our expectations for our vacation returned. The hotel facilities and staff where exceptional. A beautiful hotel nestled up in the hills with spectacular views of the bay below. The room was beautifully decorated and spacious and provided a lovely retreat for our family every day. We spent 2 weeks at this wonderful resort and could not recommend it highly enough to anyone looking for a secluded, tranquil and beautiful hotel with great staff that make you feel so welcome and at home and always there to assist for restaurant reservations, directions or recommendations. We where truly sad to leave and so look forward to returning to this wonderful location and resort. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

My Fiance and I stayed here for two nights as a break from our work on a yacht and were not that impressed, the pool area was a building site and truely dangerous, the room was lovely and spacious but we were in the delux and had two rooms but there was no were to eat at a table inside (it rained one morning, Breakfast was OK and didn't try room service) there was a birds nest on our belcony which i love nature and would not dream of touching but the cherpping kept me awake the first night. there was only one sun lounger on the belcony even though there was more than enough space (two belconies). The staff were fantastic but when you pay the price of a 4 star hotel you expect the little things that come with that. We went into the bay for dinner on the first night to find that the hotel bus nearly left with out us as it was past his finishing time (we were two minutes behind the phone call as it was quite a walk from the beach resturant to the car). Everything looked tired even if it was end of season. and all resturants and beaches and shops were either a taxi ride or the hotel bus when running.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 10 day stay. Our room was spacious with a lovely balcony and view of the ocean. The option of a having the bountiful continental breakfast in our room was an unexpected bonus. The staff were extraordinarily friendly and helpful. No surcharges - the quoted rate included everything. It's a small, intiimate resort with just 17 rooms and all necessary amenities. We used the extensive gym daily. The sea and restaurants are a short pleasant walk downhill and a shuttle is available to take you there if you have not rented a car.

This was our third visit to the Hotel Marquis and we were very pleased with our stay.....which is why we keep going back. This property is small, quiet, and has the feel of a private villa rather than a hotel. However, the rooms are huge, the view is spectacular and the staff and service are efficient, pleasant and very accomodating. The beach below is one of the best on the island, although with the opening of Le Domaine we did find it a bit more crowded than usual. There are some very good restaurants nearby, including several on or near athe beach below and many within a 15 minute drive from the hotel.

My husband and I stayed at Le Marquis for a trip to St. Martin in February, 2011, and it is hard to think of any "cons" about the place. The rooms were clean and well-kept, and very spacious; I think every room in the hotel has a beautiful view of the bay, and a private terrace. It feels very luxurious.

Le Marquis is up a steep hill from the main road - about five minutes in a car from the bottom to the hotel. However, the Radisson is halfway between the two, and while Le Marquis is not directly on a beach, the Radisson is, so it's a very quick jaunt (by free shuttle) to the sand. There is a lovely fitness center, and tennis courts, as well as a small pool at le Marquis; the Radisson below has shopping, dining, and both pool and hot tub.

The hotel is situated right near Grand Case, which has the best dining on the French side; we went there almost nightly for dinner, assisted by the marvellous staff.

The staff were so cheerful and professional; you truly felt like it was a joy to them to help you out with something. I have never before stayed somewhere where I was so well and kindly taken care of as here, and I'd recommend it without hesitation to anyone going to St. Martin. The only downsides I can think of are that one needs a shuttle ride to get to the beach (see above) and there is no kitchen on-site; a lovely cold meal is provided for breakfast, but this is not an American Plan type of place, and you'll have to go out for lunch or dinner (or they'll get it for you, but it may get chilled on the trip). This, to me, was not a downside, but I know some folks are looking for an all-inclusive, never have to leave my hotel, type place.
