“Seren and quiet amongst Nature”
Reviewed January 17, 2014

Firstly, the photography of the resort needs to be reconsidered. The resort is absolutely clean and spacious. We stayed in the Special Cottage. The cottage does not come with toiletries except a lovely lavender soap. So travel prepared. The rooms are equipped with hot water kettle and drinking water. Since it is a jungle resort, please ensure you follow the rules of the place.

The staff (especially the men in the kitchen) are extremely helpful and sweet. The food is good and homely. It is not a luxury resort and any such expectations would only go against the experience. If requested, the staff goes out of their way to ensure your holiday is complete.

The resort provides guide for sight seeing and bikes for cycling around. The coracle ride is short but enjoyable. We thoroughly enjoyed riding our cycles. They also did up a bonfire for us. This a part of the package programme they provided us, since we were travelling on New Years.

The place has good sighting of birds and reptiles. Be careful while walking around the resort as reptiles were spotted by us. They are absolutely harmless, provided no chaos is created!

They do not have in-room service, network connectivity (unless you have Airtel) and no intercom in rooms. Also, getting there may be quite confusing (even by Google maps) so you might want to keep their landline numbers handy.

Room Tip: The resort accepts ONLY cards. Carry a headlight/torch for walking around in the night

Heard and read lot of hype about this place, so it was on my agenda since sometime. 2 families planned the visit and arrived there without pre-booking. Lucky to got 2 cottages. Price approx 4K per person including activities. (should be a lots of activities)
1. Food was just below average. (I wasn't expecting *** treatment).
2. Rooms were dirty asked 2-3 times to get it cleaned. Not at all hygenic if you have a small baby.
3. Coffee mugs, glasses all dirty. Asked specifically to changed.
4. Found 8-10 frogs in wash room hiding in every possible corners etc. It was scary.
5. Boat ride was good. Bonfire was boring.
6. Morning blackbuck sightseeing was little ok, thanks to Hussain. His experience and talks, made 20km distance short. Why its a blackbuck resots if blackbuck are 20 km away ? Resorts has only monkeys and local animal.
7. This resort is very borking if you come as one family. Make you own group and then come. Dont know why ppl dont interact even while traveling together ? Not even sitting together for bonfire. It felt like a pyre is burning there.
8. Thankfully staff was good and helpful.

Definitely not for 4K each person. 2.5-3 should be OK.

Room Tip: Check thoroughly for lizards, frogs or insects.

I had finalised on this resort based on reviews I read on Tripadvisor, must say that it was just fabulous.

The Hyderabad - Mumbai highway is in pathetic condition and is full of craters, so the 100 km(approx) distance was covered mainly on slow speed and a lot of conceration. But the diversion on to state highway from Zaheerabad to Bidar (35 kms apporx) was a very scenic and smooth ride.

The resort is very welcoming and the staff is fabulous. We were the only guests on friday so got all the attention. However the resort was full with guests on Saturday - families and bachelor groups.

Hussain had a great knowledge of the local flora fauna and he took us for the blackbuck sighting trip. We could see many different birds. He also took us for the Bidar Sightseeing trip.

We had to give the trekking a miss due to rains but the coracle ride was fun.

A few tips:

1. Stay calm and quite in the resort, if you donot disturb the surroundings the birds will come and pay you a visit. This is a place for nature lovers and not for noisy drinking and dancing office parties.

2. Make the most out of the mornings, its really pleasant. Get up as early as possible and immerse in the melancholy of the chirps all around you. Its really refreshing. You may be able to sight a few peacocks too who come to the resort from the nearby jungle. I was lucky to sight them but my family was not.

3. Do not forget to carrry a dedit / credit card since the resort does not accept cash for the extras you buy there e.g. mineral water, snacks, booze etc.

4. Do check the condition of your car, specially battery amd tyres. Though help is available within 5 kms from the resort, it may be taxing if you are stuck post dark.

5. There are no swings / slides / play area for small children so carry something to keep them busy.

My wife and I love being in nature and being in Hyderabad, there are hardly any options available. Hence, we were delighted to google this place around 140 kms from our place.

Our previous jungle experience was a disaster (Jungle Bell Resorts in Tyda) and we were just hoping that this would be good.

We reached the resort in our car and were pleasantly surprised. The resort is well around 2.5 kms deep inside from the main road and is very peaceful and serene.

We had booked a standard cottage and since we reached at 12:30 pm, we were lucky to get the cottage down near the lake.

The resort was very well maintained and was extremely neat and clean. The cottage was very comfortable and clean and the bathroom (the top parameter for us to judge an accommodation) too was very clean and hygienic.

The cottage had a balcony opening towards the lake and this made a beautiful sight.

We had lunch in the afternoon and retired to our cottage. At 4 pm, we had tea and biscuits and then were taken to a place around 15 kms from the resort to see the blackbucks. It was really a spectacular view to see these beautiful animals roaming around in their natural habitat. The guide was knowledgeable and he also showed us other animals and birds during this visit.

We returned by around 6:30 pm and then watched some of the videos of other jungle resorts. The best part of the resort at night was the pin drop silence. One needs to be there to experience this peace away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

We also got to hear the humming of the insects and it was so loud and clear that I recorded it in my phone.

We had dinner and retired to our room. At 5:30 am in the morning, there was a wake up call and we were out by 6 am in the morning...ready for our lovely coracle ride. It was a memorable experience with the coracle rotating while going deep into the lake. The fresh morning air was the perfect start we needed for the day.

After 25 min coracle ride, the guide took us around the place for trekking and we were lucky to spot many native birds. It was magnificent sight to saw our national bird in the wild. We really missed trekking ever since our return from Australia and we were happy that we got a chance to be back in the wild.

After returning from trekking, we had a delicious breakfast and then checked out to explore Bidar Fort and other areas around.

One of the best things about resort was the delicious food at all times. It wasn't the spicy food we get in restaurants but was like the home made food.

The entire staff was very polite and courteous and helpful. They made sure that the guests were looked after well. Also, all the guides were very knowledgeable and professional.

It turned out to be our perfected weekend trip. After this wonderful trip, we are planning to explore other jungle resorts from the same group.

Thanks and regards,
Vivek Barnwal

Had been to Black buck resort in Bidar last week and you bet I meant each word of my Title of this review. They have some eye and taste while siting their resorts which is easily comparable with the best of resorts anywhere in the country if not the world. Its not that other States do not have similar terrain and locales, but somebody needs to take the initiative to provide such attractions to tourists where they can enjoy the nature and all that comes with it.. The resort is very well maintained with very spacious cottages and excellent view of the lake. The safari to see the blackbucks is great and so is the Coracle ride and trekking. The staff is most hospitable and knowledgeable.I have taken off 01 point for the standard of food which could have been much better, had they employed a trained Chef. I would like to impress upon the management to pay equal importance to this aspect as one expects some good food to be served while on a holiday.Opt for executive cottages/special cottages as standard cottages do not have a view of the water body. They could also improve the view from the Ghol Ghar(dining area)as the trees/shrubs have covered the lake front.Overall an excellent place for a weekend break, esp from Hyderabad.

Room Tip: Executive/special cottages are best.

For the weekend destination starved junta of Hyderabad, Black buck resort is like a drop of water for a parched throat.
And a drop of water it is. Its Jungle/Wildlife credentials are negligible. The only thing wild about the resort is that it is located in a small bit of green belt which mainly consists of tall bushes and short trees. Wild animals are rare, if any at all. They do have a "Safari" where they will show you the black bucks. But then that is a drive through village and fields, where the deer can be seen roaming in open.
That said, what works in favor of the resort is that it is conveniently located at about two and half hours drive from Hyderabad. Also the resort itself is aesthetically laid out with privacy for all its cottages and a exuding a sense of being in wilderness. It is a peaceful place where you have enough time to catch up on your reading or just laze around.
On one side of the resort there is a lake/tank which kind of dries up to being a small pond in the summers. Depending upon the time of the year you visit you should be able to see some interesting birds.
Food is average and can be disappointing to some. Best take a couple of bags of chips and similar for backup.
The approach to the resort is through a dirt track which can test the ground clearance of you car. So be ready for a bit of an offroad drive - of about 3-4 kms. I have seen small cars make it to the resort, so nothing much to be worried about.
The cottages are new and neat, with a small sit out, from where you can see the lake and the forested hill on the other side.
For activities there is the safari for black buck sighting, nature walk, coracle rides. There is equipment for fishing but I did not get to try it.

We're a family of wildlife lovers and adventure enthusiasts. So when we found out about a Blackbuck sanctuary about 3 hours away from Hyderabad, we just had to give it a go. The resort itself was fantastic, especially Executive Cottage number 8, which has a fabulous unobstructed view of the Vilaspur lake. Excellently maintained, with a great ambience with the echoing calls of peacocks, a zillion birds and beautiful fireflies at night, the time we spent at the resort left nothing to be desired. It was the perfect, idyllic getaway for a weekend. The food is overpriced for its taste, which was nothing spectacular. The coracle ride was a good experience, and the early morning nature trek was refreshing, though we didnt spot any wildlife except a langur family, some common warblers and whistlers, a chameleon, two snails and some emus caged on a farm. However, the blackbuck sighting is a fiasco, as we were taken to an open, unprotected field near a village where a herd of blackbuck were grazing. We were too far away, couldn't see anything, and there was certainly something odd about the way the deer were being corralled by men on bikes and herded away from the field. We were told that it was "air force land" so couldn't go too close, and had the misfortune of seeing a pack of dogs kill a doe who had strayed too far from the herd. And guess what, no one did anything. Go here only as a getaway, don't expect much from wildlife.
