We loved this lodge, situated in a lovely scenic valley in Gorkhi-Terelj National Park. Even though there were things that could be improved, overall we loved our stay.
We were met by a driver at the airport. The transfer to the lodge seemed overpriced, but we were too lazy to seek out an independent driver, and it got the job done. We arrived close to 9pm and were whisked off to our ger; then we returned to the main restaurant building for a hot meal. The food was all-around tasty, and the meals were surprisingly varied; all our lunches and dinners were different. We were served mostly western food (generally very well executed). If you are foreign and want to try Mongolian food, let them know--we had that on our last night and it was a nice change of pace. Also try the tasty Mongolian beer.
Our ger was pretty much what we expected. Since ours was a deluxe ger, it had a queen-sized bed and an attached western-style bathroom (since by early September it was already quite cold, this was key in the middle of the night). Overall, few frills, but we enjoyed the lack of wifi and the cozy fireplace--it really felt like a break. If you don't want to spring for the deluxe, the main shared bathroom was actually very, very nice and generally better maintained than the bathrooms attached to the deluxe gers (our shower drain was a bit clogged, and little bugs kept getting into our private bathroom).
Service was perhaps the weak point; staff members are not really friendly and speak little English. It was difficult to get anyone to do any basic cleaning in our ger over our three-day stay (mostly we just wanted trash taken out), and the person who was supposed to come start up our fireplace in the (cold) early morning only turned up on time one of the three days. On the plus side, they gave us directions to hike to Turtle Rock and set up horseback riding for us, which was nice.
International credit cards are not accepted; we paid for the stay by bank transfer, and paid for incidentals in US dollars (you can also use Mongolian currency).
Don't come here expecting four-star amenities, but it is a beautiful place to escape from everyday life, breathe fresh air, and unwind. We really loved it.
