“O M G”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2012

Went to Rome for business and managed to have a day off so got the opportunity to go and visit a old work colleague of mine who lives north of the Capital. we went to this restaurant on a monday night (usually they are closed but as it was bank-holiday we have been lucky). the restaurant itself is very small 7 or 8 tables most. on the night they had only a couple more tables so I presume it was an easy nigh for them but O M G one of the bet meal I had in Italy! as soon as we sat down we were offered a complimentary glass of prosecco and a little terrine with chickpeas and other delicacy inside. as starter my fried had a flan of asparagus that was ok but my "tortino al tartuo" diced potatoes, truffle and cheese served in a terrine was definitely much better.
as pasta I had a classic sardinian pasta (according to the lady chef / owner) called colurgionis very similar to ravioli with potatoes and feta cheese. nice but without sauce I had the feeling something was missing. instead my friend opted for maltagliati (pasta cut in irregular shapes) with broad beans and pecorino cheese very nice indeed.
as main-course we both had to have the roasted pork Sardinian style. it was out of this world!!!!!! a tender rib of hog with cracklings. sublime! side I had a light salad and my friend headed for some onions roasted in balsamic.
as with my friend we didn t see each other for a while we had lots to talk about so before dessert we decided to have a portion of cheese each. a selection of 4 or 5 cheeses all from sardinia and they all were excellent! as dessert 1 had a basket with chocolate mousse and strawberries and my friend went for a delicate sponge and cream that now i don t remember what it is called! the lot was washed down by 2 very nice bottles of "is arenas 2007 riserva" a very nice full body fruity red from sardinia too. overall a great meal in a small but nice restaurant in a beautiful part of the world. a must try

“Our best meal in Italy”

We stumbled into "Il Bocconcino" while staying in Civita and were absolutely delighted by the food and service. We had so many good meals in Italy, but this was a highlight!

“A Delectable Morsel in Bagnoregio”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2012

Bagnoregio is a small, modest town known primarily as the gateway to the exquisite little jewel of Civita' di Bagnoregio perched on a pinnacle high in the sky above the Tiber River Valley otherwise known as "the dying town". It is therefore a complete and unexpected delight to discover the unique comfortable elegance, and sophisticated yet uncomplicated savoury cuisine of 'Il Boconcino', a little restaurant recently opened, located right on the main street of Bagnoregio next to the town bakery and across from the local bar . The thought and attention to detail that Gloria, at once the restaurant's owner, effusively charming hostess, and creatively talented chef, has painstakingly put into this gem. The restaurant seats 30 at most, and the menu offers a trove of Sardinian specialties innovatively prepared, as well as other Italian classics, all cooked sublimely, such as the Carbonara made with fresh farm eggs and crisply cooked guanciale (the pig's jowl and most succulent part) as opposed to the much leaner pancetta. All the ingredients and produce that go into the dishes at ' Il Bocconcino' are locally produced or grown, and of course the delicious breads come fresh from the bakery ovens next door.
Do not miss stopping in at 'Il Bocconcino' on your way to Civita' for the very best of Italian country cooking.

“Wonderful food, super service, delightful setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2012

Delicious Italian cooking, with a sardinian influence. Small, family run restaurant in this pretty town of Bagnoregio. Lovely atmosphere and beautifully decorated. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Open for lunch Wednesday through Sunday and I recommend you book for an evening table. It gets busy.

“Small stylish restaurant with delicious local menu with ultra friendly service.”

We looked for Rome tome to find this place out of luck. We are so glad. Tastefully decorated in a contemporary style but lovely old fashioned service. We ordered steak with figs and sweet red onions unbelievable quality meat and sauce. Getty one al Ravi for the youngest went down very well and the deserts were superb. Brilliant little find.
