“A MUST see for all battlefield pilgrims”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2013

Very good café with very reasonably priced food and very good Belgian beer from the pump.
The owner Johan is VERY passionate about his work both above and below ground in and around the "Immortal Salient". Ask to see the film show of "Vampire dugout" and "Beneath Flanders Fields" (Then buy the book here and get the authors signature!!). If you are interested in the First World War visit this café' for a TRUE battle field excavators view.

It's the perfect place to have lunch stop during a battlefield tour around the salient, a nice snack for a good price.

“De Dreve - Home of the Underground War”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2012

A fantastic place for who is looking for the real story of Polygone Wood during the Great War. And of course there is nobody like owner Johan Vandewalle, who can tell you so much about what went on during the 47 years of fighting in the Ypres Salient, both above as under the ground...
A must visit for all who have an interest in the Great War and the Ypres Salient!

“wonderful visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2012

In the afternoon we took a taxi to Polygon Wood, in particular to a cafe restaurant called De DREVE,known internationally as the Anzac Rest, a well know visit centre for the late Harry Patch At 111 yrs the last survivor.Johan the owner was a wonderful host showing my grandson 3 vcrs of the battle at polygon wood,,enjoyed a lovely lunch ,cheap by Ypres standards,, This in many ways was a highlight for me whilst i had visited the battlefield id somehow missed the pub..an error i shall never repeat.Next day an early start car back to Schipol Amsterdam, Spent the day in Amsterdam visiting , firstly Ann Franks house(be advised if ever intending visiting , buy a ticket on line allowing instant access avoiding the hundred yards queues)and other less salubrious sights.Purely for his experience i may add.Ate a wonderful meal at Argentinos restaurant the starters and steaks were superb,Evening back home.. I know this is long but i make no excuses as i have many members to thank for assisting our trip,, Greetings from Scotland.Andrew Ashcroft,Livingston Scotland
