The gardens or hotel gounds are really beautiful, which ever room you stay in. Its called on the edge for a reason and taking a walk through the garden brings you to the mountains edge with a spectacular view. There's benches to sit on and take it all in as well. The staff are really friendly and helpful. We didn't stay in the best room you can get which is on the mountains edge but no complaints with what we chose. They all have a big window so you can lie in bed and look out onto the garden. Everything was clean and serviced every morning. We had a shower no bath. We had a TV in our room with DSTV To watch while falling asleep. Some rooms dont get a TV. The hotels restaurant is excellent!!! Awesome setting in the evenings and they have a fire going if its cold with music playing the in the backround. The food was amazing. The best steak I've ever had anywhere before. We had that steak every night and it was consistently good.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good, but just ask for what you want to make sure your room will have it because s...

We stayed at Maple Grove instead of The Edge but did a day visit to the Labyrinth while we were in the area. The Labyrinth was free of charge and offers lovely views of the surrounding mountains and valley below. There are 3 curio shops open to the public and what seems to be a good restaurant. Unfortunately we didn't eat there either (we really just wanted to see the Labyrinth) but the service we received as day visitors was welcoming and friendly.

Was an interesting experience walking the Labyrinth which took approx. 10 minutes at a leisurely pace.

The property is off the beaten track but is well sign posted from the Main Road of Hogsback.

While there, try visiting the Eco Shrine and Applegarth Gardens & Nursery.

All three visits should take about 2 or 3 hours.

Room Tip: They have a Christmas in July celebration (I guess this is snow season) but it seems like a popular...

The views are super and the self-catering cottage (Fire-Fly) was pleasant and had the basics - including a coffee plunger. We arrived on a rainy, windy and cold afternoon, with snow on the surrounding mountains. So we only got the view the following day.
Unfortunately the little things which make for a memorable stay were missing. An electric blanket was not working, the welcome note mentioned complimentary rusks which were nowhere to be found, and the tiny piece of paper under 3 sticks of wood in the fireplace was hardly worth lighting. The option was either to find paper in the car or trudge through the rain to reception to buy fire-lighters.
Being charged for the wood we burned after advising that the electric blanket did not work gave the impression that the establishment had lost the edge which the marketing material suggests that it once had.
However, the huge leather couch in front of the fire was comfortable and perfect for watching the fire while enjoying a good sherry.
We opted to eat supper at the restaurant rather than cater for the one night we were staying over. The food was good and service pleasant.

This place really is on the edge of the world! Amazing views from the cliff-top location, with serene surroundings and sunsets to die for!

We stayed in the peach blossom cottage. Accommodation is spacious, and perfectly adequate and private, but this is not the place to go for luxury - as the price reflects! We had some issue with the hot water which were quickly sorted by the owners.

The cafe/stay rant serves good food at a good price - the freshly cooked muffins with the continental breakfast are gorgeous, and we'd also recommend the picnics they will pack for you wi freshly baked bread etc.

This resort is in easy reach of Port Elizabeth via a picturesque road through the mountains. The views are spectacular especially for walkers. The resort is very welcoming and the rondervals so comfortable. We part self catered, the facilities were good, but there is a great restaurant for days off. Not to be missed as a change from the coastal scenes.

Room Tip: The Rondervals are Splendid but garden rooms are OK - its the position which is so good - all near...

One of the most beautiful places I have ever been to!

The labyrinth was such a unique experience! Our room the chestnut cottage at by-the-way was huge and had all of the things one needs for a relaxing family holiday.

We were very impressed, was even worth the extended trip to get there!

Room Tip: I loved the chestnut cottage but what I saw of the apple and pear cottage was also very nice - just...

My wife & I visited in the new year with the in-laws & 2 friends of theirs. We happened to pick the only Irish day in early January but had a ball despite the rain. The accommodation was perfect for self catering with all our needs catered for. Disappointing to need a fire on the 2nd of Jan but great to have the facilities.
We dined in the restaurant on our first night and had breakfast on both days of our stay, the food and service exceeded our expectations given price and location, which is always going to leave you smiling! We braaied (BBQ) our 2nd night and were in awe of the changing vista from sundown to starlight. Hogsback is an out of the way, unique and special place.
The hike from the village to the Eco Shrine and home to the edge is magical, but then so is most of Hogsback.
We are already planning 2 return trips, and if I have my way retirement in 20 or so years.

Room Tip: Book well in advance to secure the best views.
