“Walking South West Coast Path”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

I used this address whilst walking the South West Coast Path. 3 km from the path but the proprietor came to Porthleven to pick me up. Beautiful location, very friendly and helpful owners. Comfortable rooms and a good breakfast. Very reasonable price, good value. Used local recommended pub nearby and owner kindly dropped me there and collected me afterwards.

We just drove into the property, and Ian came down the path to welcome us and help bring in our baggage. He showed us to our room - large private bathroom just across the hall, the breakfast room and guest lounge. The bed was very comfortable, lots of towels in the bathroom and everything you can possibly want, including tea and coffee makings in the room and a guest fridge where you can store you own wine if desired.

This is an old farm house which has been tastefully renovated to become a B&B. Nothing was too much trouble and both Ian and Liz were helpful with their advice and extensive knowledge of the local area. Liz's breakfasts were delicious and the daily choices imaginitive and varied.

This B&B also has a couple of cottages for weekly lets and there is a lovely big converted barn where kids of all ages can hang out, play games, read etc in the evenings.

There are several local pubs and a golf clubhouse a short drive away that serve excellent food, and many local attractions are within easy driving distance.

Ian and Liz are proud to inform their guests that Tregathenan is an Eco friendly home and they really strive to reduce their footprints on this beautiful part of England!

A great place to stay and we will certainly return when we are in the area again.

Room Tip: We had the room with the private bathroom rather than ensuite as it has a tub with rain shower. The...

Very hospitable service with friendly and genial hosts who were knowledgeable of the area, well prepared with maps and welcoming upon arrival The room was nice. There's a walk up to the local pub where people again are friendly and chatty, and dinner is good value for money. We saw a fox and a badger on the way home from the pub!
A really nice touch was that our suitcases were carried in for us when we arrived and also carried back out to the car when we went to leave. We could have stayed longer than 2 days if time had allowed!

We've been and stayed in the self catering a couple of times and found the whole experience relaxing and stress free. The owners are similarly relaxed and nothing is too much trouble. The accommodation is warm, clean and spacious, location is rural and quiet, there are no worries if children run off to see the alpacas there is no traffic, a good stash of toys is provided as are free load BBQs and the chance to purchase local ethical charcoal, at night the sky is amazingly dark without any kind of background noise.
As a base, it is within easy reach of Penzances, Helston and Hayle, the beach between Hayle and Godrevy is as good as you could hope for anywhere, National trust membership will pay for itself in free car parking, try a sunset BBQ in the dunes near the sunset cafe for a truly memorable experience.
Cornwall is justifiably very popular and can be busy, this is a welcome exception. Many thanks again to Liz & Ian.

A very nice B&B; nice room, great breakfasts. We particularly enjoyed the packed lunches which were a terrific value for money and gave us lots of flexibility when going out walking. It is secluded, and so quiet, but easy to get to anything we needed in a few minutes by car.

Our hosts were very welcoming. The service throughout our stay was impeccable, and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was especially good, and always of a high standard.
Our room was spotless and met all our needs. We were also blessed with a wonderful view of the garden.(including the ducks which we fell in love with.)
Location was ideal for sightseeing and we were most fortunate that our host had so much knowledge of the area. It saved us so much time (and money) as we visited the best corners of Cornwall.
Our only criticism is that 'local pubs' are not really within reasonable walking distance, so not great if you are disabled.
The nearest town 'Helston' had plenty to offer in regards to shopping for basics, and also for cafes. Larger supermarkets within reasonable distance.
We liked the tranquility of Tregathenan, and the breakfast! Also the friendly, but not obtrusive service from our hosts.
We would love to return to Cornwall, and would not hesitate to book again..maybe try one of their cottages which look devine, especially for families. Would miss the breakfasts though.....
