Fawlty Towers so nails this one on the head, the owner is Basil Fawlty, his mannerisms, his voice, his demeanour. We spent 15 minutes at the check-in desk with him filling in our registration card and listening to his chat, we were shown to our room (by him) and we dumped our bags, freshened up and went back downstairs for dinner (10 minutes later). On entering the dining room he then asked us of we had registered as a guest ????? I know I said freshened up but still, we hadnt received an extreme makeover ! We ordered our dinner and I must say it has been the first time I have not eaten or enjoyed fillet steak ! The place could be very lovely however the gardens were unkempt and the general state of the place just screamed tired and sorry and that probably included the staff. We took the most expensive room in the hotel, "the Royal Blue Room" , personally I wouldnt bother.

I wasn't expecting much from this place but was very impressed, we had a lovely big room, the meal was excellent - we had pie and chips, chips were home made fries and lovely chunks of meat in the pie, again home cooked. The breakfast room was lovely and the food again was excellent. Friendly owner and staff also helped make the stay very enjoyable. Only stayed the one night as I was travelling from England up to Skye, I enjoyed the place and the area around it, Portpatrick is lovely. The ferry to Northern Ireland is also nearby. Going back in August for a full week this time and really looking forward to it.

With one thing and another I travel a lot and stay in many different types of hotel. This is without doubt my favourite place! Not perfect-but nearly. If you are looking for great service, good home cooked food,a friendly-albeit quiet- bar-then look no further!
Rooms are comfortable and well appointed. Then there is the location-peace and tranquility! I just love it! I have stayed here about 6 times now-and will be back soon. Perfect place to re-charge the batteries.

A familiar ambiance, very kind owners and personal. The service is friendly. The Rooms are very clean with the best beds we had in Scotland. We would have staid longer but we had to reach the ferry the next day. We will return in this place as soon as we return to Scotland. We get a lot of informations to visit interesting places.

This really is a hidden gem of a hotel. Stayed here over the Easter weekend with my husband- you will be hard pushed to find a better base camp for exploring the area. The owners Jim and Cindy and all their staff are so friendly and accomodated our every need.

The weather always seems to be on the mild side thanks to the gulf stream, but even on windy days, i'd recommend visiting the lovely beach at Sandhead, or a trip to Portpatrick which are all just a short drive from the hotel. There are so many hidden sandy beaches and secluded coves that you can discover something new every day.

It's location in a wee village means that you wake up to birds chirping and the happiest cows i've ever seen munching away in the field next door! The food was great (especially recommend the steak and ale pie or the Haggis with balmoral sauce) and the good full scottish breakfast really sets you up for a day out exploring.

The Hotel has a special place in my heart as it's where my (now) husband proposed during a short break there a couple of years ago; i was just disappointed that it was too far away for us to get married there too!

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel and will no doubt be visiting again soon.
