We didn't know what to expect and we're thrilled with this place. We had a two bedroom villa with a private pool which was tastefully decorated and very well kept. The beds are extremely comfortable and the view from all of the villas is of a beautiful remote black sand beach and wavy ocean. The food is very good and the staff will go out of their way to help you with anything you need.

Hosts Ismayanti and Gordon are the most welcoming caring and beautiful people. The staff were professional and friendly and welcoming also. We had never been to this part of Bali before and we are so glad we have now. A must for the buckets list everybody. Peace, quiet and untamed beauty. Couldnt recommend Kelapa Retreat highly enough. The restaurant was one word - divine. The food was just superb. So looking forward to the yoga room being finished. I will most definitely ulilise it next time we are in Bali. We will return again and again.

Kelapa apparently means coconut in Bahasa and this small resort has ten or so villas nestled in beautifully landscaped (coconut) trees and lawns running down to a black sand beach which is probably God's own country for dedicated surfers.

The resort is fairly remote on the Western tip of Bali some three hours from Denpasar by road and two hours beyond Seminyak - always depending on the traffic. A two or three night stay is probably best. We did n't try the spa. The villas are lovely, modern and want for nothing. The staff are very friendly and chatty and the resort's eatery - "Tides" is excellent with a joint Western/Indonesian service. Breakfasts are superb (the American is to die for) and come evening, try to order fresh fish a day ahead and subject to the weather and the local market catch, you will be impressed by the seafood you ordered. Even the local Balinese wine is very drinkable (as well as being reasonably priced) and cocktails are also good (Mohito for sure).

Above all the smiling faces of the staff there and the sight of the uncompromising surf will remain in our memories from our 4 day stay at Kelapa Retreat.

Room Tip: Villa 3 was great

So where do I start. This place is incredible! Much better than I expected and a real undiscovered gem!
This was our first stop in Bali. Just over 2hrs drive from Denpasar - a beautiful drive in itself, along the coast, past some amazing scenery, padi fields, small towns.
On arrival we received a wonderfully warm welcome. The staff here are just fantastic, so warm, friendly and accommodating.
Our room was amazing. It was very large, open, and luxurious with all the facilities one expects.
After we unpacked we opened the large sliding doors to find 2 fresh coconuts for us to enjoy.
The outdoor shower is amazing, although there is also a very nice indoor shower.
The bassinets are large and provide plenty of space for your toiletries.
Bottled water is provided daily and there is also a minibar in case you require anything else.
The resorts restaurant is great, serving both local and international cuisine.
I have to admit we very much enjoyed the food here, especially the included breakfast.
The infinity pool here is wonderful, overlooking the beach and there are many loungers available to relax on.
The beach itself consist of very soft black (volcanic) sand. It was empty most of the time and wonderful to stroll along, watching the sun set.
Surfing and other activities are possible on the coast and I enjoyed using the boogie boards which are free to use.
We made use of the spa treatments which are done in room, and are really worth trying. They are great value for money, and we both agreed that the Bali Full Body massage was the best, most relaxing thing either of us had every tried.
I could sit here and write all day about how wonderful and secluded this place is, but honestly I think you just need to go and find out for yourself!

Room Tip: All rooms have a great view.

Peaceful and welcoming. Wonderful attentive staff. Beautiful grounds sloping to the black sand beach. Plenty of pool furniture for all guests to laze on after their dip in the pool. The villas are very roomy with quality comfortable fittings an finishes. The outside deck is a winner with us - so comfortable and inviting. Restaurant is very affordable an delicious. We loved our stay, will be back for sure
