Hotel Sandy Bay is in Shankarpur and the address in this website is their booking office. I stayed at Sandy Bay between June 3 and 6 and to be honest wasnt impressed by the hotel. The room we stayed was a corner room - not big - it had a rickety AC that had long outlived its purpose in life - the floor was stained brown ; I was told the carpets had been removed and the stains werent really dirt. The biggest problem was insects - they got in by the hundreds ( no kidding - I mean this ) - and they got into our mouth and face - irritating and can be dangerous. We were told this is because of the rains and the woods around the hotel.
The bathroom was bad ( not exactly unclean - but run down with lack of maintenance). The toilet seat was loose and kept slipping. The Hotel plumber tried to fix it for half an hour and then gave up. Quite an unpleasant experience.
The food was however good - provided you opt for Bengal Cuisine. You can also try out the Chinese they dish out- good but more like Indian Chinese than Chinese Chinese!
The Hotel had a small lawn - but ill maintained. There's another small garden with fruit trees at the back - but again not kept well. Some one had dumped used bricks, broken tiles from the hotel near the side - and it added to the ugliness. I found the design of the hotel awfull -
A little bit of enquiry revealed that the owner is a local business man who owns petrol pumps, shops etc etc and also owns this unfortunate establishment. The lack of focus and lack of competency shows.
The hotel is in Shankarpur between Kanthi ( Contai) and Digha. We took an AC Bus from Esplanade ( a horrible terminus) and it dropped us at Choddomile before Ramnagar. We had asked for a car pickup from the hotel - the car was there - but they had committed pickup to too many guests. So we had to wait our turn (45mins). The hotel is about 20 mins by car from Choddomile along a bumpy road.
When we had travelled , the Chief Minister of the state was holidaying in another resort - so the better beach was out of bounds for normal people like us. The beach we went to had tree stumps - the result of erosion - and it made walking uncomfortable. It was clean otherwise - but really not a good beach.
Stay at Hotel Nest - from the looks of it - its better. A bit far from the beach - but they have a vehicle that commutes.
