“Average room experience but nice breakfast”

We got a nice room, although nobody helped us to get the luggage delivered to our room. The reception staff needs to be increased as there is a resource problem. While preparing the room key, phone calls is a huge nuisance and the customer's had to wait for long time. hotel should put different resources to answer room service calls.

Breakfast as fantastic. Overall 7/10 I would rate

Arrived late (ish) from a delayed (as usual) LGWZRH flight. Waited 10 mins for the shuttle bus, and was the first in line to check-in. If you book via an online travel agent, you will need to pay the addittional 2.50 CHF city tax, which weirdly, I have never had to pay at the Park Inn over the road. Breakfast was included, and was ok. The beds however were very very firm, and subsequently I didnt sleep so well.
Its ok if you can get a really good rate, but I wont be rushing back.
On the hotel website, it does show bathroom amenties like shampoo and conditioner, but actually its just the liquid soap from the wall dispenser as per other Holiday Inn Express'.

Room Tip: A room not facing the main road might be a bit quieter

thank you for your review and all the information provided.
Please give me the chance to comment on the points given by your side.
Every guest in Zurich and surrounding (also airport area) need to pay the CHF 2.50 City Tax per night - this is by law and I have also checked with the Park Inn Hotel and they confirmed that at their hotel every guests pays this amount as well. About the mattresses I can inform you that we have replaced all of them end of last year/beginning of this year, so you must have slept on a nearly brand new mattress. The bathroom amenities are due to the Holiday Inn Express brand standard and have just been approved again by the IHG Hotel chain.
I hope my explanations help and we hope to welcome you soon back again at our property.

The reception was friendly and spoke English. The hotel is located near the airport. It was clean and looked relatively new. There was a complementary shuttle to the airport but it needs to be reserved. The pillows were firm and there was no alarm clock in the room. We had an early flight and thankfully we had our own clock. There is no where to walk around the hotel. Everything is in construction. Once at the hotel we realized that our European trip was over. We were happy to be going back home. Zurich was expensive.

It is good to hear that our staff was friendly and helpful. All our staff members at the reception speak fluent English.
We have a shopping centre only 200 meters away from our hotel and several Italian restaurants in and around Rumlang. Supl. we have a shuttle but going to down town Zurich several times a day.

I had a very bad experience in HOTEL HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS ZURICH AIRPORT. when I checked in the room the bathroom door was not opening when we called for room service the manager came in and opened the door but the lock was bad and then it wasn't closing.he said " we don't have any maintenance person to make it now can't you take shower in front of your wife & child". He said If you want to change your room come to reception on ground floor with all our luggage and then take the key from there. he could have just called one of us to take the keys.

I went down and a lady on Reception named Miss. ALINE helped us with everything even with our luggage. she came to the room checked and gave us a new room. sorry to say but this wasn't expected from a BIG name in hotels like HOLIDAY INN. we were really disappointed by this.

We had a brief stopover in Zurich and needed a convenient hotel near the airport. The Holiday Inn Express fulfils those needs. The room was comfortable, the staff obliging and food and wi-fi available. You know what you are booking and the consistency of these hotels makes it the first choice when we need a quick stopover.

Room Tip: Any of the rooms meet your need if a quick stay is required.

I have stayed here multiple times last year when I had to visit Zurich on business. If you have to go to the city then it is a little inconvenient to take the shuttle to the airport to catch a bus. Rooms are a reasonable size and provide reasonable comfort without any frills. The breakfast is probably the best feature of the hotel, reasonable choice and good coffee. On a couple of occasions I had to get something resolved with my bill after I had checked out and I found that contacting the hotel via email worked very well and matters were resolved to my satisfaction.

In tourist season it tends to get crowded (especially around breakfast time if you are unlucky to be caught in the rush), however otherwise it is a very quiet place.

OK, Where to begin.....

After staying at many various hotels in Germany that varied from named brands to mom and pop and B&B. all had complementary WiFi...except this one, not sure if its a Swiss thing or not... they did have a 30 minute complementary internet, however that required a 3rd party signin with you authorizing them to send you email advertisements....bogus. The hotel had some 'vouchers' but you had to buy them, and probably had to get adds to your email also, so we declined.

Even though there were negative reviews, we chose to stay here anyway because of the location and shuttle to the airport. It was listed as across the street, but still more than ten minutes away from the airport..... and the shuttle does not leave till 0500. We had an early flight and just barely made our flight time.

The only shining spot was the breakfast and one employee named Rena. She was the only smiling person working for this hotel that I saw during the two days there. (we almost moved to another hotel in Zurich, but we needed to drop a rental car back in Konstance and did not want to schlep all our luggage there back to Zurich ) Rena was working the breakfast in the mornings. The breakfast ends at 10am sharp, and it was like roaches scattering as the bell rung.... everyone except Rena. I saw her helping a family that did not get down to breakfast until the last minute, and the other workers were giving he dirty looks, but she just kept helping the family. ( BTW, at a hotel that serves international clients arriving from sometime many time zones away to shut down breakfast that early is ridiculous) If I managed a hotel in Zurich I would search her out and hire her on the spot!!!

The shuttle to the airport was overbooked, so if you do stay there.... show up early to stake out your seat.

Oh.... and also you have to put your room key into a slot in the wall to activate the rooms electrical system... so if you want to charge your computer or camera etc, while you go to the bar or restaurant, you can't because you have to 'unplug' all the power from the room when you take your key with you.

Next trip I will plan on staying downtown somewhere and just take a cab to the airport.

Thank you for your review and all the important information. These information are very important for us since they will help us to improve our quality and make the stay for future guests at our hotel even more enjoyable.
Please let me comment on some of the points given in your review:
1. Wifi
In nearly all hotels in Switzerland you have to pay for the internet. Our hotel gives all guests 30 minutes free of charge internet access to check their emails and to print boarding passes. Afterwards you can buy internet vouchers at our reception for a very moderate price compared with our competitor hotels. If you are a Priority Club Gold or Platium member you will receive the internet free of charge for the day. I hope this explains the situation concerning the Wifi.
2. Sorry, but I need to correct your comment about the bad reviews - we mainly have very positive reviews and the amount of unsatisfying reviews is very low.
3. shuttle times - there is not one single Zurich Airport hotel which runs the shuttle before 5 a.m. in the morning since it does not really make sense. The airport opens its doors at 5. a.m. and if you would be at the airport earlier you would not be able to enter the building. Such an experience we would like to avoid for our guests. I hope you understand this.
4. breakfast times - as you know our breakfast is complimentary and we start breakfast at 4 a.m. in the morning and end it at 10 a.m. like nearly all other hotels in Zurich and at the airport as well. In total you have 6 hours to join the breakfast and even you can attend several times - I personally think this I a good service and do not understand why this should be "ridiculous"?
I am happy that you have enjoyed the service of our staff - I will pass on you compliment to them.
5. shuttle reservation - yes it is correct that we ask every guest at check-in if they need a shuttle service and we do this to avoid overcrowding and to offer the guests a comfortable trip from the hotel to the airport.
6. electrical system - yes we have this electrical system in place due to "environmental care" - we want to save energy and help the nature. But there is no problem to get a second key card so that the electricity is also activated if you leave the room. Please ask at the reception the next time you stay with us.

Again, we would like to apologize for any inconveniences and hope to see you soon back again at our Holiday Inn Express Zurich Airport.
