Novotel Sydney Parramatta
Ranked #7 of 12 Hotels in Parramatta
Reviewed November 7, 2011

I have stayed at this hotel numerous times for business over the past 12 mths, at least once a month. Hotel is generally ok, but does not really excel in anything.
Firstly would consider myself a regular visitor to the hotel and as such would assume they would have my details on record but they never seem to...frustrating to repeat this each time. Every time I have stayed there has been a small problem - nothing major and it wouldn't bother me too much if I was on holiday but is annoying for a hotel that seems to market itself as a hotel for business travellers. Examples of these issues include cold room service breakfast, no margarine available for breakfast downstairs, broken phone, broken tv, noisy air conditioning.
On the bright side, food in the restaurant for dinner is fantastic.
Would be good for families more than business travellers.

Hi All,

Spent 3 days in Sebel Parramatta for work trip during October 2011.

Check in - pleasant .

Check Out - fine

Customer Service - excellent

Room Type - room was well presented and everything you need. Shower is a bit dodgy but could of been a one off (benefit of doubt).

Location - at top of Church Street (main street of Parramatta) and only 10 minutes to Westfields (other end of mall, that 10 minutes is walking too).

Cost - average.

Overall, comfortable stay and probably one of the better places to stay

Really nothing to rave about - but just simple and reputable name.

On ya - Benno

I stayed overnight to meet up with a friend. And was amazed with it's proxmity to the train station. There was a free bus service from the train station which drops you within 2 - 3 mins walk to the Sebel Hotel. The staff provided exceptional service, the rooms were exceptional...neat and well presented. I highly recommend the hotel to any who wish to stay, it is afforable and within walking distance to the heart of Parramatta CBD.

Room Tip: Higher floors provided an excellent view of the city at dawn...a bird's eye view, quieter excell...

We stayed here overnight for our anniversary and apart from the location and pool area, we probably could not recommend the hotel.

On arrival we thought everything looked great.. things soon took a downward spiral when we returned to the room after dinner (at a Thai place down the road).

We got back to the room and decided to go to the pool area... no towels! Called reception and they asked us to check again... which we did... nope... no towels. They said they would bring some up. We went to the pool area and staff turned up about five minutes later but left the towels inside the gym area, did not leave any outside so we left a trail of water collecting them. Ok... not that big a deal but the rest of the night is what made the stay a downer...

We decided to stay in and watch a movie on pay per view rather than go out to the cinemas because I had injured my back a week ago and it still was not better, great idea in theory but... there was no sound on the movie channel (regular tv was fine mind you). We called reception and they advised someone would be up shortly (which they were, within five minutes). It turns out the cable needed to play the sound on the pay per view was missing... they sorted that and we had sound...

The problem is the sound was literally HALF the volume of what the regular tv channel sound was, even on full..and we really could not hear it properly over the sound of the aircon.. we called them back up. The guy admitted it was not very clear and said, it must just be the movie, try another... did not offer to remove the movie from our bill, went to leave etc. I then said well I cannot hear it and if it is a problem with that particular movie, I will not be paying for it as not seen even ten minutes of it. He then said he would take it off the bill and try another, others should be fine.

We were a bit doubtful but tried the trailor of another movie before purchasing and the trailor sound seemed fine... so decided to give it a try... same story!!! Could not hear it! At this point we gave up. As we were trying to sleep, we realised the toilet was still running and making loud noise (what we assumed was just the airconditioner was also the toilet!). So we had to turn it off at the tap to get some peace and quiet.

To top it off... I went to have a shower in the morning and found there was mould inside the shower... great cleaning service they must have! But I chose not to worry about complaining as it seemed customer service was not number one on their list given the tv debacle..

On check out, they tried to charge us for the movie they said they would take off the bill. Said to them we were told it would be removed from our account as the sound quality was so bad we could not hear anything and the second movie was no better... The guy then offered the excuse of "well the walls are so thin, that may be why". Told him no, the regular tv channels were fine, could hear them no problems but the movie channel was half the volume, even on full so that was a problem with their tv or movie service. He then seemed to realise there was no point arguing and I was not going to pay to he removed it from our bill...

Overall, unimpressed with my experience...
