“Typical lovely Mallorcan Finca with great hospitality!”
Reviewed September 27, 2013 via mobile

We stayed for two nights in Son Siurana and loved it! The finca is situated in a lovely position with great views of the farmlands below and also a large pool. Even though it is a little close to the main road, the traffic noise is very minimal and doesn't effect the ambience of the finca. It was still a lovely and peaceful stay. The rooms are all of typical rustic Mallorcan decor and were very clean and tidy. The staff were all very friendly and helpful too. So if you are looking for a relaxing, peaceful break away from it all, I would highly recommend Son Siurana!!

We paid just shy of €1,400 for 7 nights, which works out just shy of €200 per night, EXCLUDING breakfast. At these prices, this accommodation is poor value for money, hence I rate it below average for the class it aims for (Booking.com rates it as 4*, which this place is not).

First, the positives: each and every member of staff we dealt with is super charming, the main building, surroundings and our own two person "casa" all look nice, cosy and homely. You have unimpeded views of the countryside around. So why "below average"?

General facilities:

- your own peaceful use of the swimming pool depends on who else is visiting. This is true to some extent of most public facilities, but here the problem is compounded by the fact that the minimal pool rules do not forbid (as common in other places) use of floating devices in the not large pool means that if there are kids doing the normal things kids do in a pool, you may as well forget about using it, as there is simply not enough room.

- the complex lies above a trunk road, one of the main north-south routes on the island (so trucks and buses in addition to cars), so there is a constant drone from the road, even at night. As windows are not double glazed, you can't avoid hearing it.

- food: upon arrival, we were tempted with a Tabla de Jamon Serrano and cold meats with "pa amb oli" (note here they use virgin olive oil, not Extra virgin olive oil, but this seems to be the norm on the Island): we got 4 slices of ham and three of some smaller cuts, with bread, for €10.50 (plus 10% VAT which was not advertised, at least not on the "Tablas" flyer we were given). Poor value for money, as we discovered when we had a full plate of high quality Iberico ham in town for €10 including VAT). So we were not at all tempted to try the a la carte menu.

Our "casa":

- the bathroom is equipped with nice soft towels and bathrobe (but no slippers) and toiletries (though no shower capt), which however are not replenished as a matter of course.

- no complimentary tea or even instant coffee - you have to walk up the main buildnig to get something (self service, €1.50).

- very limited storage space: a small wardrobe with four drawers, two of which occupied by extra bedding items. No place to store luggage.

- limited shade on the outside patio: there is a parasol, but as the house is baked by the sun, the patio floor and the house wall reflect the light, so sitting outside is uncomfortable even in the shade of the parasol. Surprising that there is no pergola or similar to keep permanent shade.

- no room service

- no telephone in the room, so you can't call reception, and have to go to the main building if you need anything. Not convenient.

- the consierge is unmanned at night.

- no internet in the casa

- breakfast starts late (8:30) and as there is no room service you cannot have it served earlier in your room.

So for €200 per night, I'd definitely go somewhere else next time.

By means of comparison, another self catered flat we stayed at while visiting a thriving tourist resort in the Alps in the following week had double glazed windows, espresso coffee maker with a selection of (complimentary) coffee pods, a selection of black and herbal teas, room service, an amazingly comfortable mattress and so on, for about - for €140 per night.

Room Tip: Sequer has not got internet

This comment refers to a casa at Son Siurana. Our "casas" are not merely rooms. They are houses with their own terrace, living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Of course with an excelent daily cleaning service and many services offered for those who don't wish to make use of their kitchens . The price is very much in accordance with what Son Siurana offers. Son Siurana has a free unlimited free Wi-Fi connection (terraces, swimmingpool, houses, salons, etc..)
One of the houses could only reach connection from the terrace but since September 2013 absolutely all the casas do have internet connection as it has become very important nowadays.
Son Siurana "pa amb olis" are delicious. They can be ordered any time of the day either at your casita, terrace or swimmingpool. They are served with an excelent Mallorcan olive oil, Spanish jabugo ham and cheese from Menorca.
Most of our guests are very happy at Son Siurana. Our level of repetitors is quite high. All recommendations are welcome.

Son Siurana is really a wonderful place in the middle of the majorcan countryside. We spend one week there in a separate house and were in paradise. The service was perfect and everybody was very kind and helpfull. For us it was just perfect! The swimmingpool is fantastic with a splendid vieuw and we found very nice beaches not far away.

If you want a truly stunning location with solitude in a panoramic ,countrified setting and a real history ; punctuated only by the sound of birds and goat bells and the smell of home cooking (yet close to all the usual amenities in Alcudia) and fun places like Porto Pollensa and Soller - do this! Also if you like well behaved kids and family parties with babies from all nationalities who have real holiday in a way that doesn't bother anyone else then I urge you to go there. They have their own brand of wine too. The fruit/herb garden is lovely.Very relaxing.
It is a familly run business and that shines through. If, however, you are a pasty, penny pinching nerd who wants to stare at your laptop/phone/tablet in the shade all day rather than look at the view or wander round the grounds and then eat a "Heston" type meal in the evening with a glass of water then it would be better to stay at home.

After all the glowing reviews I was a little disappointed by Son Siurana, especially having in mind value for money.
The positives:
- The staff are extremely kind. Any snag we reported was dealt with immediately, and nothing was too much trouble for them. I was really impressed by this attitude. Great service, well done.
- The setting is very nice, with good views of the countryside all around.
The negatives:
- No internet access in the villa we were staying in. The general blurb stated that wi-fi is available in the 'whole structure', but unfortunately the whole structure does not include one of the villas.
- Only somebody who has not experienced the true silence of the countryside can claim that this place is quiet and relaxing: the background is the constant noise of the main road from Palma. The noise is even worse when the wind is unfavourable.
- The villa is detached from the structure yet there is no phone to communicate with reception.
- The pool is really a kid pool, mostly very shallow, and with no rules. So one could find the already small swimming area entirely occupied by kids' inflatable mattresses, or guests playing ball games by the side. Great for families I guess but definitely not for peace seekers.
- At the prices they charge I really think they should accept Amex.

In sum, at 50% less price I would have found Son Siurana a good place where to stay. But at the price we paid, I would demand something more. Sorry!

we spend a week in Son Siurana with our 2 year old daughter and enjoyed it very much.

Son Siurana is about a 45 min drive from Palma and 10 min from Alcudia.

The service is very friendly and professionnal.

The Pool is excellent for adults and for kids.

It is an ideal place to relax.

Room Tip: With kids it is - in our opinion - better to take one of the small houses instead of a room in the m...

We wanted a short (4 night) break in the sun, at a week's notice, with big constraints for arrival time back to Liverpool - Mallorca was the only place that fitted, so I looked on Lastminute.com and chose Son Siurana. There were complications with the Lastminute.com organisation but Monsina and Sofia from Son Siurana were able to sort them out, and my goodness, were we glad we chose this island and this hotel! We loved our little cottage, loved the private terrace, loved the private path to the pool and house, loved the fantastic view, the cactus garden and the donkeys who came to say hello every day. The food was superb, the loggia where food was served was beautiful, the swimming pool was enormous and the sun loungers very comfortable (and always available). The staff were very friendly, couldn't have been more helpful. We hired a car one day and took a taxi to Alcudia one evening, both arranged by the staff. If you are thinking of staying here without a car, make sure airport transfer is properly organised - the coaches do not come here, even though Lastminute provided vouchers. However, taxis were easy to organise - and I'm hoping for a refund from Lastminute! Everything about Son Siurana is wonderful but I'd like to make one suggestion for even more perfect service - could bottled water be provided in the room? We were told water from the tap should only be used for cooking so until we went out in the hired car we depended on water from the mini-bar. It is usual in 4-star hotels even in cool countries with perfectly drinkable water to provide bottles of water in the room, it seemed a little odd that this wasn't the case in this very hot country. Of course, as soon as we had the car we bought incredibly cheap water - but it would have been good to have it provided. However, this is the only little niggle and doesn't detract from 5 stars in every category, we loved everything about the hotel and hope to come back.

Room Tip: All the cottages looked good, we were in Sequer and would request that again, it is the most private...
