It was great to stay in a hotel with so much cinematic history. The location was amazing, really beautiful, it was like something out of the wild west - then we found it was!!

Its about a 10minute walk to the centre of town which we found fine and quite liked being away from the noise of the town. This also made it really quiet but we did have a room away from the road.

The rooms are a really good size, lovely and spacious with all the facilities. It was just the bed that was extremely hard - which was a shame as the whole experience of staying there was really good, even if we didn't sleep much.

The staff were helpful and friendly, especially the young lady on reception who was great and helped us out when we were struggling

The pool area was lovely to lounge around and a great backdrop of the hills.

We didn't eat there so can't comment on the food.

Would recommend this to anyone who likes something a bit different with some history thrown in.

Room Tip: Ask for one away from the road.

On the outskirts of San Jose is this clean and quiet hotel. I expected the hotel to be very quiet, But found that one of the buildings is facing a road, so not so quiet all the time. The rooms are clean and well kept. Make sure to visit the nearby beaches. We only had breakfast at the hotel.

Having read other reviews of this place AFTER we had already booked, it was with some trepidation that we ventured in, but we were pleasantly surprised. Lovely suite (it was sold as a double room with 2 extra beds, but the kids' beds were in a separate room), fascinating building - a lot of spaghetti westerns - and other films- had been filmed there. Pleasant staff - although few and far between- , nice pool and tennis. And a pool table. What more did we need? We didn't eat there so can't comment on the food, but breakfast was ok. A 10 minute walk to town, another 5 to the beach. As it's not a 5 star we weren't expecting luxury and didn't get it, but it was great value! It was just what we were looking for. We only stayed one night but will probably be back, as we loved San Jose too.

This was billed as an elegant hacienda by the company that recommended this hotel . Completely misleading and I suggest said company starts wondering about the poor reviews. Start with the positive - the rooms were large and clean though the bathroom could do with some updating. It is a pity that the rooms and dining room were so cold. The repeat and unasked for alarm call at 3 a.m. was not appreciated either.

There was a complete lack of staff and the same poor man was covering reception (though most of the time we had to go and find him) the bar and the restaurant. The outside drinks area could have been made so much nicer and the dining room was large ands soulless.

The food menu was a joke. Several of the things we requested were not available - why not offer a pared down menu and be able to supply rather than a large menu and not deliver? On our second night we effectively asked for ham eggs and potatoes and even that was not available as the hotel had no potatoes - a hotel without potatoes? It was hardly 4* food to offer in the first place! My friends fared no better - burnt but cold food and frankly it was inedible.

I know things are bad and we were out of season but I cannot think of any good reason to stay here.

We were sent here on an Inntravel holiday which included breakfast and evening meal.

The rooms were nicely decorated, but very cold in the room itself as well as in the dining room and bar areas.

Breakfasts were ok but the evening meals were really poor. Many things on the menu were not available. Those that were available were not good. On the second night my main meal comprised cooked warm goat, a hot grilled tomato, a piece of cold Spanish omelette, a cold grilled slice of courgette and a cold, burnt, grilled slice of aubergine. Not good.

We had a large airy room with a terrace overlooking the garden, but the dinners were dreadful, and breakfast butter and jam came in those awful plastic pots that are impossible to open. This otherwise lovely hotel is seriously let down by the kitchen.

Very clean and bright.Nice break from crowds and cities. Its about a 10 min. walk to the small town with small but well stocked store and ample restaurants.A 5 min. walk to great hiking trail that heads north with fantastic views over the sea.O.k. breakfast with fruit,, bread, meat and cheese. It was Jan. when we were here so it was a bit cool for the pool, but it looked wonderful. The two members of the staff were sort of nice but not very friendly. This would be a good to very good hotel with more comfortable beds, an english language channel.and a more friendly staff.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back by the pool seem better
