“very disappointing”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

We were conned into paying extra for a terrace room as the others were untruthfully said to be full.
Terrace is not private; a string separates you from your neighbours.
No off street parking.
WiFi did not work nor internet from an old illegal Windows XP PC.
Only local Spanish channels on TV.
After the superb Parador in Lorca everything here was very inferior except the prices.
Walk around San Jose and find better value around every corner.

Room Tip: "walk out you'll get more for your money everywhere in San Jose"

San Jose is a laid back town on a sheltered cove. The Dona Pakyta Hotel is a stylish and friendly hotel overlooking the cove with a path leading past the beach bar to the sea. We were given an apartment with its own terrace - fabulous for sitting out with a G&T before wandering down to town to sample the restaurants. Breakfasts overlooking the bay were a nice start to the day. The aircon was fine, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was fine.
We had a lovely time and would happily go there again.

Room Tip: Personally I'd recommend the top apartments. Superb views and very quiet.

We stayed longer than most here but had a thoroughly good time. Hotel clean and views spectacular. Staff are very nice and helpful. Breakfast basic but enough choice. No hot food but fresh fruit, cereal and lovely bread and cheeses, but view across bay beats any view ive had from other hotels. Could eat in hotel but we decided to eat in the town most nights. Location of this hotel is its selling point. Rooms large and spacious. Tv all Spanish but we didn't mind as we were on beach or on bikes most of the time if you want a good standard of hotel with great views and the feel of a smaller hotel this is for you. We didn't miss having a pool as beach only seconds away.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view! We did and although no balcony we could watch sun rise from every window.

The hotel sits on top of the beach, a few steps away from the sand. We stayed in a fantastic room with sea view from the balcony. Breakfast in the restaurant shared the similar amazing views. San Jose is a buzzing but not massive resort with plenty of great bars, restaurants and market stalls.

I booked two rooms at this hotel. One for my cousin, who unfortunately became ill and was unable to travel. So I cancelled one room, the dearer of the two. However on arrival at the hotel we were told that they had over booked and had placed us in their other hotel, "El Sotillo". We had booked the Dona Pakyta because it had it's own beach and it was in the town. The 'El Sotillo' was outside the town. We were charged the higher amount despite the inconvenience and only offered breakfast following protestation. Incidentally the bathroom flooded during the night. This hotel group appear to over book the show hotel to fill this other hotel.

Room Tip: Chose a different hotel.

We had book at this hotel at least 2 months before our arrival and we should stay in 11 nights. One week before our arrival we received an email that they had a problem in our room so they need to cancelled our booking and offer us to stay at their sister hotel at Hotel cortijo with free 1 night dinner and we never interested.

Now, we are in San Jose and heard around that they got a booking of wedding group at june 22-24.

Never trust your booking att this hotel, we travel a lot and this is our first time that the hotel administration cancelled our booking, we never never book again in this hotel.

Now we stay at Hostal Santuario which is we are very satisfied, all staff here are so friendly, very quiet and we feel so welcome!

San Jose is a nice place to stay as the coast in Spain is sometimes not so beautyful (big buildings etc). It was very quiet at the time. It is a small location, touristic but not "overbuilt" and with beautyful beaches and coast-walks (but with hills, not suited in a hot summer). Good for a break in May.
We had a large room with a terrasse and a sea view. Short walk to the beach. Quiet, easy parking. We had ust a one day hot water problem (as the solar heating device had a problem but it was fixed within 24h).
Breakfast was good especially if you come early (nice viex from the restaurant, plenty to eat, staff a bit cold).
I don't know for the restaurant as we didn't test it and dined outside (in Spain diner is late so just adapt yourself and there is plenty of places to test tapas). We found two good restaurants alhtough not cheap (but fresh fish from the day).
The hotel was good in qualtity versus price compared to previous experiences. Anyway plenty of choice in San Jose but this one is OK. Pleasant staff at the reception (otherwise a bit inpersonnal).

Room Tip: Have a room with a terrasse and a sea view. Better on the other side of the street as it is more &qu...
