The Red Lion Inn
Reviewed November 2, 2012

Having stayed at another local hotel the night before and not received the friendliest of service, it was with some trepidation we made our way to the Red Lion. Our fears were totally unfounded when we were met by the incredibly friendly landlord Jamie. The room was cosy and quaint, with an amazingly comfortable bed and super strong shower.
Dinner was fabulous, the prawn cocktail and pork belly far superior to those eaten at Marco Pierre White's Frogmill Inn. My mussels with cider, cream and bacon were delicious and filo pastry chicken and ham hock pie was sublime.
Following a good night's sleep, our only gripe was having breakfast at 845am the next day, but it was seriously tasty and much needed after a few beers with Jamie and some entertaining games of pool with one of the locals.
We will definitely be back, just trying to fit it into our plans!

Stayed for one night 13th October a birthday treat from my wife. I have to say i,am not a hotel person find most of them are like being in a cattle market so i went with a cynical mind. We arrived and were met by Jamie our host who made us very welcome, We found the room had a wonderful ambiance being warm and very cozy the evening meal and breakfast was delicious. For people like myself who enjoy being in beautiful countryside and want to compliment it with a stay in a small village inn you will not get any better than the Red Lion Inn thanks to you all.

Great beer. Good service. Very pleasant dining room although a little over heated (probably for the largely elderly other patrons...)
Plenty to choose from on the menu and the specials board.
Red pepper and fennel soup delicious. Served with fresh warm toasty bread and butter - surely a meal in itself.
Friend had roast pork. Delicious pork with baked potatoes and gravey. Stuffing was a standout. Greens were undressed, bland and served on the side. Crackling missing. Weren't offered apple sauce.
I had monk fish kebab. Standard kebab with onion, green peppers etc and chunks of monk fish. Served with what I think was a pomegranate reduction drissled on the plate and saffron rice. Good enough but I must say the monk fish got a little lost in the flavours and was over cooked.

The Red Lion was a wonderful find.
It is in a lovely spot, a quiet and pretty village , but convenient for Stow and Bourton on the Water. Jamie the landlord was really friendly and helpful, but so were all the staff. Our room was lovely, overlooking the garden with super shower! We had a fantastic meal, great local ingredients and the menu is good offering lots of choice and some unusual choices. my husband would recommend the the steak pie! All in all a great find !

My wife and I stayed here on a weekend break and have already arranged a return in November. It's a great country inn with two rooms on the first floor, set in a quiet hamlet within easy driving distance of a handful of lovely Cotswold towns. The shower room is a little small, but this is compensated for by the excellence of the shower itself. The bed was very comfortable-almost guaranteed to give you a great nights sleep and the room was very pleasant, including tea & coffee & complimentary bathrobes too! We were welcomed by landlord Jamie, who was a genial, charming, interesting and friendly host, who did all he could to make us feel welcome and ensured we enjoyed our stay, which we did in every way. He runs a tight ship and its clear every guest is valued. Make sure you try his rum home brew - you won't be sorry! Jamie's partner Esme runs a great kitchen which turns out fantastic breakfasts and a fabulous restaurant menu as well-see my review of the restaurant too!

We visited the Red Lion for a Friday night supper when staying in the area for the weekend.
Our first course was enjoyable - my partner enjoyed his pork terrine which was well presented, and I had the halloumi salad. His veggie main course, savoury pancakes, were stodgy, while my pork belly was OK. Nothing to write home about, though served with a smile.

This hotel is small and staff very friendly. Food is excellent. Ideal spot for exploring the Cotswolds. Bar area with few seats for people not eating in restaurant. Real ale served.
Customer service was very good. Outside there is a garden area with sheltered areas. Large secue car park.
Rooms are small some have bath and shower whilst others have showers only. Very clean and room are quiet. A bit pricey for b/b but I think most hotels in Cotswolds are. Plenty of choicei on the menu which is reasonably priced.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 2 are at the top of the hotel and are at the top of narrow stairs. Not sure if other ro...
