we went here on a groupon deal for lunch, the service was very good but we were underwhelmed by the food. It's appeal was the pies but my husbands game pie lacked game, he did say it was ok though but he wanted more meat, my haddock and chips were lovely but a lot of food, the chips were nice and crispy. it was a half hour drive for us to get there but there is nothing to draw me back.

Thank you for your review. I am delighted you enjoyed your meal and apologize that there was not enough filling in your Game Pie.

This is the first Groupon deal we have done and although all deals are treated with the same passion and energy as well as purpose in our business i think we might not be suited to them.

Kind Regards Phil Kiernan Proprietor

Visited here with friends after a morning trip to the Forest of Dean and was impressed. We arrived at 12 noon and they were obviously busy as there was a Christening party also going on, but we were given a table in the bar and having ordered promptly, our food arrived promptly. I had the half and half beef / cauliflower cheese pie and our friends the wild boar pie, both of which were excellent. By the time we left, the place was rammed, so think that speaks for itself. Highly recommended.

Spent 2 nights here with my husband and dog. We found the atmosphere in the pub extremely welcoming. Our room was comfortable with an enormous bed, efficient shower with plenty of hot water.
My husband adores pies and he was salivating at the thought of his evening meal. He was not disappointed with his steak,Guiness and mature blue cheese pie. I had the chicken breast stuffed with black pudding leeks and ginger.Delicious!
Breakfast was equally good with everything cooked to order.
If you are travelling with your dog take Phil's advice and head for Mayhill - turn left out of the car park and take second left ( Barrel Lane). Follow the road for about 2 miles, over the cattle grid and park. On a clear day there are fantastic views and a great place to exercise the dog.
The road outside the pub is a very busy one and we thought It
might have disturbed us but no fear we slept well.
The pub is extremely popular and if we had a niggle perhaps they could do with more serving staff as we did have to wait a while for our food to arrive. Having said that, they say a good thing is worth waiting for..
Overall we thoroughly our visit - we met some lovely people so thanks Phil ,Amanda and the lovely Amy and those staff whose names we didn't get.
Hope to return if another Wowcher offer comes our way.

Room Tip: We were in Room 1 and it was fine. All the rooms looked similar.

Friendly staff and great food. The room was clean and airy, would like to say very little to whinge about, would of liked better soundproofing, found the noises from next door bathroom disturbing!! Otherwise a great base . Beware!do not be taken in by the presentation of the evening meal.My husband thought he would be starving when he set eyes on his evening meal, haddock & chips, boy was he wrong, so filling and cooked to perfection. A busy and friendly establishment.
Would recommend to family & friends.

As locals and, having seen Phil on Four in a Bed, we were intrigued to try out the fabulous Farmers Boy Inn so booked Sunday lunch with elderly Mum.

We had a warm welcome from the staff and were shown to a table that considered our request to be accessible for Mum. Staff attended and took a drinks order, and then disappeared for quite some time before our food order was taken. We were comfortable and enjoying the very evident Irish humour of the Pub so no problem. Main courses arrived and were fabulous. Our waitress came and cleared the table and asked if we would like puddings and we said "Yes". The pub started filling up and our waitress sort of disappeared ..... Eventually with Mum becoming agitated husband went to the Bar and waited to be served - skipped puddings and ordered coffees which arrived fairly promptly. The bill was presented and paid without anyone asking if everything was okay. We filled in the feedback form outlining the above and (so unusually for us!) left without leaving a gratuity for the staff - sorry!

Our comments on the form said that we felt the Chef had been let down by front of house staff and lack of continuity - just really needed one person to oversee the waiting side of things and the whole experience would have been brilliant.

We will be back but hope this review helps to make what is obviously a very successful business even better.

Delighted you enjoyed 80% of your experience at the Farmers Boy Inn.

Not happy that we did not managed to make your experience 100%.

We appreciate your constructive comments which helps us grow as a family business driving us all in the same direction with the passion and energy that we love to create at the Farmers Boy Inn.

Please accept my apologizes and LOVE to Mum...

Kind Regards Phil
