“A welcome stop on a dreary day.”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

We had driven through heavy rain and stopped for lunch. Stepping through the door into the warm and dry, the open fire making a very pleasant atmosphere. We chose from the bar menu and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We didn't need much tempting to go for dessert but we thought the cost of my wife's choice was a bit steep.
The barman was friendly and attentive.

Great halfway point for two friends from England and Wales to meet up. Right on the A46 and 5 mins off the M4 so really convenient. Plenty of parking space but no easy access that we could find with a pram so we had to carry it up the steps. We had a friendly greeting and excellent service. The food was amazing and despite being the only customers (it was the middle of the afternoon) there was still a nice atmosphere. Real fire and nice artwork. I hope this place is busy at the weekends because it's a place everyone should know about. Would definitely come again.

I used the hotel on two consecutive nights as a stop-over between the far south west and London.

The hotel is very conveniently sited near to the A4 and is surrounded by very pleasant countryside. It would be fair to say that it exceeded my expectations.

I had a very pleasant room with a good en-suite shower room. The fittings in the latter were of a higher standard than found in many more expenseive hotels and the towels were of excellent quality.

The dinner menu was limited (I regard this as a good thing) but on the two evenings I ate there the quality of the food and the presentation was first class. The choice of wine,(a number by the glass) was good. The breakfast menu was quite comprehensive and cooked to order (like the dinner). It was a perfect start to days involving long driving.

All in all, I found the hotel welcoming and warm. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Room Tip: I stayed in the George Elliott room.

We were let down by another venue in the locality, but at short notice, Bodkin House came to the rescue with a splendid 4 course dinner, great wines and beers, attentive service and a room for the night (the best in the house), but best of all, a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. We will certainly visit again.

Room Tip: Jane Austin room is very comfortable, and although at the front, traffic noise is not a problem (dou...

My sister was over on a surprise visit from Australia staying in Berkshire and I live in Wales so I was looking for somewhere easy to find for a relaxed evening with dinner that we could meet at.
There was plenty of parking and a lovely ambiance as soon as I walked through the door. My sister had already arrived, and been directed to some good shops in Tetbury, and was pleased with her room. We had tea brought to us in the comfortable sitting room attached to the restaurant so we had a good natter which carried on seamlessly whilst dinner was served. Great starters, and steaks were highly recommended so we went for those; beautifully tender and cooked as requested, with a side sauce to die for. The red house wine was the perfect accompaniment. Then we went back to the comfy armchairs for coffee. It was all as comfortable, friendly and relaxing as being at home, with better service!

We popped in for a quick lunch because our favourite place was already closed, and now we have a new favourite place! We came in with low expectations, but came out on a high. We just had some soup and sandwiches, but they were clearly freshly made and very well presented. The chunky chips were very chunky indeed and there was a lot of steak in the steak sandwich. Highly recommended for a meal, and we will definitely be back and have something more substantial the next time.

We ate lunch here today in the bar and received really great service by a very friendly bar man/waiter. So attentive and friendly. The mains were nice and puddings to die for, especially Brownies and sticky toffee :-) Thank you Bodkin House!
