“Christmas lunch”
Reviewed January 19, 2012

I did not stay on this occasion but sat for a very enjoyable Christmas dinner. Arrived early and welcomed with a glass of champagne, escorted to the well presented dinning room after placing our orders. Wine was chosen and the first course arrived. About 30 people were present. The pace was relaxed and the young girls serving did an excellent job. Main course and wine was served all very very nice. Now stuffed time was given for the food to sink and afew more drinks along with the cracker pulling. Sweet was also good. Then a little bit of fun with a general knowledge quiz..... Never could remember all the reindeers names. First prize a complementary meal for 4 people. Time for cheese and a glass of port followed by mince pies and coffee in the lounge. Very enjoyable and no washing up.

Wow! What a day! Thank you so much Don & Eileen and your very attentive and helpful staff who made our day so special! From beginning to end the day was perfect and the attention to detail was second to none, your staff are certainly a credit to you. You totally re-arranged your newly decorated dining room to suit our needs and requests and delivered everything that we asked for and more. Our guests were very impressed with the venue, service and especially the food. We will certainly return and recommend you to other friends and family!

A building of distinction with such a warm welcome from oner proprioters Don and Eileen. The main building is of historic significance. This 17th century coaching inn was mentioned in the novel 'Northanger Abbey' by Jane Austen. Rooms offer a blend of country traditions with modern en suite facilities. With amazing landscaped gardens you can relax under the cooling shsde of trees or sit soaking up the eveving sun, sipping your favourite drink. The food from the restaurant is forever being updated and has a chef who likes a bit of originality when it comes to some dishes and others a traditional home cooked feel to them. As the winter nights set in you can also sit by the welcoming log fire in what now is the bar but many moons ago was the houses main kitchen.

Stayed with work in this lovely old hotel. The bar area with fantastic open log fire was superb. The food was excellent and the owners very friendly. The rooms were cosy, clean and comfortable. The breakfast room too was lovely. If I am passing this way again, I'll book in!

If you like avoiding chintz and appreciate faded gentility this is the place. Food's pretty good, log fire's great but the stone floor takes some warming up. Service is casual and friendly, you feel welcome and looked after. Good place for a relatively quiet lunchtime meeting half way between lots of places: Gloucester/Cheltenham and Bath; M5 and M4 etc.

Nice real fire , top quality food and friendly staff. This was my 4th visit and I will be coming back again. The roaring log fire was a wonderful welcome and the staff were willing to divulge the fascinating history of the building.
