“Best location in Wayanad, Amazing Experience”
Reviewed September 19, 2013

I was happy to see that this place was EXACTLY like the photos on its website. It s a perfect place to relax and take a good break from day-to-day life. I will divide the review as follows:

Location: Amazing and Beautiful! The retreat is a heaven with a huge water body in front and lush green forest / hills at the back, far away from the hustle and bustle of town, ahead of the Banasura Sagar Dam. The drive is through a dense hilly forest and is an awesome experience in itself.

Service: Excellent and Prompt! The Manager - Mr. Shahjahan is a welcoming and pleasant personality with a smiling face, always available at service. The other staff is very prompt and helpful too.

Stay: Comfortable and Nice! The Nalukettu rooms on first floor are very good and give a breathtaking view of the forest behind as well of the lake in front. The experience of living in Nalukettu was very different. It reminded how the people of Kerala lived earlier, gave a feel of living in Kerala traditionally. The feeling was better than living in a star resort at a location like Wayanad. The property seemed to be old, but was very well maintained with very clean surroundings, rooms, balconies and other places. Normally, one would expect at least some insects when staying in middle of a forest, but I was amazed to see that there was not a single insect around. There is no telephone in room, but it didn't seem to be required as the entire staff was prompt when contacted via cell-phones. No TV too, but its requirement was not felt at all.

Food: Decent! When living at a location like this, one doesn't want to go outside/down to have meals etc. It is tough to go down too, unless you have own vehicle. I had my own vehicle but chose to stay there itself and relax. Tea/Coffee/Snacks are quite good. Breakfast was also good. Dinner was just ok. At such a place, midst a forest, one shouldn't expect a very lavish spread.

Spa: There is a spa service on call. But that is just ok.

Others: No Swimming Pool / fitness centre, Airtel/Vodafone networks work well.

Room Tip: Nalukettu Rooms on 1st floor give amazing view of expansive water in the front and forest/hills at t...

We went to Banasura Island Retreat for only one day but will remember this for years.. Have never felt so much at peace. Its beauty is really difficult to explain.. We stayed in Nālukettu (twin bedrooms with common area)And I suggest if you plan to go to the resort for stay please book the same room if you really want to enjoy the view..or you can book cottages...

Staff is really really hospitable..Food is delicious... It was our first anniversary and we were surprised by the cake by the resort manager Mr.Shah Jahan there...He is a real humble person wearing a smile all the time. And they also have spa facility which we were unaware of.. :(

Banasura Island retreat is really a heavenly place in the midst of virgin nature, surrounded by lake and hills with thick forest and give you the pleasure of tranquility. Though the resort is seven years old but the place is clean. The people around are sincere, Resort Manager Mr. Shahjahan is always helping you with smiling face. Traditional Kerala cuisine is really tasty and you get the touch of sincerity in everything. The garden, parking area and the adjacent surrounding should be improved to keep pace with the beauty of the adjacent lake and hills.
Nearby falls is a nice attraction and you can have a soda lime afterwards to quench your thirst and to reenergize yourself at the bottom of the hill.
Best place to spend time with the nearest and dearest in the midst of nature. Moonsoon there is awesome.

Room Tip: Cottages are lake facing, if you have a bigger family go for twin cottage

If there is a place where you want to enjoy a serene and calm atmosphere with excellent food , exceptional hospitality , awesome views , then this is the place.

Pros :

Accommodation : We stayed in a twin cottage , as a family . The view from this cottage is just amazing. It oversees the Banasura Dam . I also had a chance to visit the single cottages which are same except that it is for couples. The view from all these cottages remains the same. The accommodation is decent for the price you pay. Cleanliness is maintained across all cottages.
Bathrooms are huge and well maintained. 24 Hrs hot water facility through Gas geysers is provided. No question of power failure as there is a UPS fitted below every cottage.

Food : This is the best part of the resort . There is a buffet for all meals with the most tastiest Kerala cuisine I have ever had. Every time you visit the restaurant for a meal , you will see a variety of dishes with no repetition. They also ask you for food preferences and provide them you in the next meal.

Location: Its Located at banks of Banasura .The folks in the resort accompany you to a walk to the dam. The view from here is awesome.

There is also a stream flowing just outside the resort which is admirable. You can trek to the stream and have a bath if you wish to.

Hospitality : The hospitality is at its peak in this resort. There is a manager here by name Shah Jahan who takes utmost care of the guests. The boys in this resort are also very very helpful. You need something , just give them a call and the stuff is at your doorstep in no time.

Cons :

No swimming pool , the recreation centre is in bad shape. However , the manager has informed that work on the recreation centre is planned from aug end and they should be having a decent recreation centre by october end.

No internet access / Landlines in the rooms : There is no internet access here, however the manager offered a dongle to access internet. The rooms also lack landline phones to call the reception / restaurant.

Slight modification to this resort such as addition of Swimming pool and a good recreation centre will make this resort the best resort in Waynad.

I have visited mutiple resorts in Waynad including Vythri , however this seems to the best among all of them.

Room Tip: Opt for Twin cottage if you are a family and Single cottages if you are a couple.

We were slightly sceptical on our trip due to the severe monsoon, but the moment we set foot on the resort, we realised that this was in heaven! We were spell bound by the great view the resort offered. First of all, this is not an island but a peninsula, with a small stream cutting it off from the main land. The resort is overlooking the dam reservoir and this offers an excellent view from all rooms. It is advisable to take cottages rather than rooms on the main building, since they offer much better facilities including better furnishings, nice balcony, and overall a nice feel.
The drive to the resort is nice with good roads and nice view. The food is great and service excellent. The staff is courteous and serve you food based on your preference.
The resort also has a trekking path with small streams ad if you are interested in long walks this is the place. Pl avoid trekking during monsoons.

Room Tip: Choose cottages only

We wanted to take a break from our hectic schedule and planned to visit Wayanad. We chose to stay in banasura island retreat. The place is located in middle of an excellent landscape. We were amazed by the breathtaking view of the banasura dam/lake from the cottage and the misty mountains. We were moved by the hospitality of the staffs there (Manager - Joemon, parvathi) (Canteen - Sunil) (Balasubramanian and others). If you are a nature lover, want to spend peaceful time with your family, then really worth selecting this place. Since this place is little far away from the wayanad tourist spots except for the banasura dam you need to plan your trip properly. A true value for money!!
