This is very interesting place who takes out your full energy out before showing its own beauty. I really liked the second cave which is at 4000 ft. Go only if u can walk steep hight and then take 300 staircase to see amazing view and very good art.

The trek is strenoeus..even for a professional trekker like me...and it is definitely not for the ladies and kids and a definite no..non.. for the elderly.....The trek is roughly a kilometre..and it becomes steeper as you climb......to reach the caves, one must climb about 200 m of steeply rising natural steps.....very treachorous..especially during the monsoons..very slippery....One needs to park the vehicle at the bottom and trek......should be avoided as one tends to lose not only patience and energy but also time...better to utilise this time visit other places....

The place is very eminent but not worth the treck and hardship and tiredness and loss of energy the visit causes. More than a Km treck on the terrain which is highly motorable. KTDC makes u to treck forcefully asking you to park your vehicle at the foothill.
No Restaurants nearby. Consumes almost 4 hour of your trip to see a 15 meter cave of pre civilization time.
Every state needs to learn from Kerala how to make money from tourism for boasting about places like this.

This is so different from the usual waterfalls and viewpoints every destination has to offer. As far as attractions go, this has to be on your list.
Hike up to the caves for a little bit of unique history and a wonderful view of the Wayanad.
If you don't like your cave paintings, leave it off your list as you'll only be cursing all the way up.

Its a very very steep hike up to the caves. About 3/4's of the way up is ASI ticket counter. After this, a series of steps lead you to the caves.

This is a ticketed momentum so guards are present. However, on a very busy day, there may be crowd control problem as the steps are very narrow. Also there's no shade or rain protection available, apart from the trees.
Monkeys are again no more a problem than anywhere else. Keep food/cola hidden or don't carry any at all.

Tip:
When we went, one of the guards inside the cave spoke good English and explained the history of the caves and the carvings. Ask and you shall be answered, Also they are not 'guides' and under no obligation to teach you history. A little tip (no pun intended!) at the end goes a long way.
