“Stunning landscape, varied activities, beautiful villa, attentive caring hosts.”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

If you are looking for somewhere really special with stunning views from a superbly equipped villa then you have found the right place. This holiday was one of the most memorable we have ever experienced - the perfect combination of activity, comfort and a real insight, thanks to Ben's encyclopedic knowledge, of a country that we previously knew very little about. The kayaking over an almost empty, stunningly beautiful lake was just one of the many highlights of a magical vacation. The food over the week was brilliant - from Ben's gorgeous arrival meal to a scrumptious spread created by Tanya half way through a varied and active hike. Our party of seven ranged from teenagers to near-retirement and there was more than enough to keep everyone happy. A fantastic experience and one we would highly recommend.

Everything it said on the tin and more. Ben was helpful, knowledgeable and charming. He clearly loves his life in Monte and shares it with enthusiasm.
The location is fab with breathtaking views and Virpasar is a dinky little town close by.
This was a 5 star experience!! Cannot wait to go back.

We spent a week at Villa Miela with Ben, Emma and little Freddy as our hosts on the shores of Lake Skadar.

If you're looking for an off the beaten track activity holiday with amazing views and unspoilt landscapes then Undiscovered Montenegro is the place to go. We would highly recommend it and give it 5 stars!

We hiked, kayaked, scrambled and swam in some of the most unspoilt spots that you can imagine and often didn't see other tourists for hours.

Ben was brilliant, knowledgeable and clearly passionate about Montenegro and Montenegrin life. He and Emma have invested a lot of time and effort into building relationships with the local community - it shows - our experience was all the better for it. Locals were friendly and hospitable and the food they share is not to be missed.

On our "off" days we took long walks of our own, visited the old town of Kotor and a beautiful beach on the Lustica peninsula with our fellow housemates. We'd go back without a doubt.

We had such a fantastic holiday here in 2012 so decided to return for a longer stay. I think we both felt a little concerned in case the return trip didn't live up to our wonderful memories; we need nt have worried, we LOVED it again! Kayaking on the lake surrounded by mountains remains indescribably magical and tranquil. We also did some fantastic hiking in the mountains and the lunch at a family house in a small village is a definitely a must (as is the homemade walnut liqueur, yum!) Doing the wine-tasting trip to small family vineyards was another fantastic experience. A previous reviewer's comment about having been backpackers previously resonates with me: we had amazing experiences that we'll never forget but with all the comforts you appreciate on holiday, in a beautiful house with breath-taking views. Ben and Emma (and Freddy) remain excellent hosts with great local knowledge.
We cannot recommend this holiday enough; it may be useful to know that when we visited this time our fellow guests were from all over the world and ranged in age from 13 to 75; everyone was able to do the activities and we really enjoyed doing things together as a group, but also being able to have our own space in the house or relaxing in the garden.
I feel like I haven't even mentioned the beautiful scenery and friendly little town (see my review from last year) We will never forget being welcomed into stunning little island monasteries and offered homemade wine, walking through clouds of butterflies in the mountains, encountering wild tortoises and paddling through the lily pads on the crystal clear water. I 'm getting flowery now! Enough said, if you want an wonderful holiday, GO!

This villa is truly a special. The location has million dollar views. The home is very comfortable and charming. Our time there really felt like discovering a unique part of the world far from the tourist trail. Ben and Emma offer such a local experience, I cannot express how much we enjoyed exploring the area with them. We had two little kids with us. Our three year old was in heaven with the hot tub to swim in, insects to catch around the gardens, as well as tortoises to spot. She also enjoyed a little kayak and nature walks in the area. For families who used to be backpackers BC (Before Children) Ben and Emma offer a perfect experience which mixes adventure, local's lives, and off-the-beaten track feel with comfort for all the family.

This was our 2nd trip to Virpazar, we had such a great time last year that I brought my parents this year. We have fallen in love with Montenegro largely because of the extraordinary care that Ben and Emma Heywood take in meeting their guests needs, organizing meaningful and culturally sensitive trips (they know the language!), and bringing guests on exciting outdoor adventures to gorgeous waterfalls, mountaintops, caves, and beaches. Ben and Emma are knowledgeable and flexible (they even helped my husband make a surprise visit!), and Villa Miela is gorgeous and comfortable. It is perched on top of a hill overlooking Virpazar, and it is laden with fruit trees and its own spring. The rooms are lovely, and if you come in late spring, you can be serenaded by the distant calls of Lake Skadar frogs.

The Villa is wonderful. We had fabulous weather, which helped, of course. Ben and Emma have done an amazing job with the property. If you want to get away from the hectic of the coastline, this is the place to be. The nature was fabulous. Endless wildflowers. The places we went to with Ben, the food and drink (!) we enjoyed, and the people we met would all not have been remotely possible without Ben's expertise of the area. The only possible "negatives" for us is that Ben is 40 and very fit and we are older and not as fit. We felt rushed a lot along the hikes, not have time to make photos or simply sit and enjoy the nature and rest. We often had to push on to the next destination on the hike and we were quite tired and sore. The kayak trip was especially strenuous and the day too long for us. Also, Ben has a tendency to "know everything about everything", which can become tiresome. If you have been somewhere or done something, he's been there too and has had a better, longer, faster, or more harrowing experience than you did, making meaningful conversation on long hikes rather lacking. But, all in all, we would go again and would highly recommend the Villa. It is quite suited for families with energetic children of around age 10 and up.

Room Tip: We recommend you bring a white noise machine (there are apps for this on smartphones and tablets) to...
