“Fantastic Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

I loved every bit of this hotel that I sampled, the breakfasts, the scenery, the room...fantastic. Quick an efficient check-in and out. Huge hotel but with many exits. Love the wooden decking. The room was immaculate with all amenities and more. The only reason I've given this a 4* is because I stayed using a deal and feel the price would be the determining factor as to if I would stay again. Also, the location is a little inconvenient.

We are very happy that our guest fully enjoyed their stay with us and found our Front of House Team to be efficient.

Our hotel is located near to Cirencester in the heart of the Cotswolds. The idyllic location and abundance of outdoor activities make us an ideal choice for Cotswolds breaks. After visiting the many local attractions or enjoying a day of outdoor activity, our guests return to the hotel for a freshly prepared meal in our contemporary restaurant or The Old Boathouse Pub.

Alternatively, as a guest of the hotel, you have the option of relaxing in our luxury Spa, which offers a range of indulgent treatments.

If you like hospitals and Travelodges, then this is the place for you.
I say this because of the long, feature less corridors to the rooms, with occasional cleaning trolleys gave me a distinctive feeling of being in a hospital - and the rooms only being marginally better than the last time I stayed in a travelodge.

On arrival, my chirpy conversation was met without a smile and instead, only a rather grey, dreary check-in process. There's only so much you can do to try and crack a smile out of someone who clearly isn't enjoying their job.
The room itself was simply not not a four star room. It's an insult to genuinely 4 star hotels to call it one.
The regular double sized bed mattress was very thin, sat on top of two solid divan bed boxes. Only two pillows were on the double bed itself.
The walls were thin and you can hear people next door and in the corridor very easily. The room had a single paltry electric heater, so inadequate that an additional standalone heater had been added to the room. The television was a cheap, poor quality flatscreen, the hotel guide book had a few hilarious stock images adorning its cover - showed smiling photos of business men in bedrooms entirely different to that of the hotel. No wi-fi in the room. The view from the window was on to a car park - as I expect a majority of the rooms must be, considering the hotels layout.
As the queues for breakfast the following morning were simply too big, we didn't have time to hang around to experience it.
The most positive thing I can say about the room was that it was clean (ignoring the red nail varnish and the orange juice carpet stains).
I should also point out that we didn't use the Hotel Spa.

To put it succinctly: this place is a three-star, mediocre quality, souless, over priced conference centre.

Our friends payed for a B&B down the road, saved £40 and also got a lovely view, free wifi and a decent bed.

We are sorry to learn that our guest did not enjoy their visit, however, it is clear that this guest checked into a standard budget room in the hotel before our usual check-in time of 3pm as all cleaning trolleys which are necessary to service such a large hotel are no longer in view once our rooms have been fully serviced.

Whilst we do have long corridors, we feel the design of the hotel has a good flow and keeping the build model to two storeys helps us to fit in discreetly with our surrounding environment amongst the picturesque lakes of the Cotswold Water Park.

We are able to provide extra pillows if required and should there be a problem with the comfort of the bed itself, our housekeeping team would be more than happy to assist wherever possible.

We do have electric heaters in the rooms. Each room is fitted with gas central heating. We can only assume our guest refers to the oscillating standalone fan unit that we have provided for extra ventilation during the rare hot English summer.

Wi-Fi is complimentary throughout the hotel and is now available in all of our connoisseur rooms with balcony, many of which offer a beautiful view of the lake.

Whilst we do encounter queues on occasion at breakfast, we have identified peak periods when the brasserie is expected to be busy and do notify our guests. The hotels brasserie is currently being extended which will allow us the opportunity to seat more guests and offer a second buffet station to ease traffic during these peak periods so that more guests can enjoy the brasserie at the same time.

Came here for a Spa Day, and were warmly greeted upon arrival. The gym was very good, quiet during the morning so enjoyed being able to use the equipment freely. The swimming pool was pleasant, however we found the jacuzzi part(s) of the pool were only slightly warm in water temperature (the pool part itself was much warmer), and one section of the jacuzzi wasn't working, nor was the experience shower. We did point this out to a member of staff. The sauna and steam rooms were relaxing. Lunch was good and plenty of it, although a bit of a walk through the hotel (in dressing gowns!) from the Spa to the area where lunch was served. We used the relaxation room after lunch, an hour before our treatment was due (we had been told the relaxation room was only really used after you'd had your treatment), but we wanted to enjoy some relaxation after lunch, and the pool area we found didn't really provide total relaxation. The treatments we had were very good. Am not sure there's quite enough to do here for a whole day, no aerobic classes to join in with, and the pool during the afternoon was very busy with young families who I assume are local's and have a membership, so we're pleased we used the pool area during the morning as didn't really want to during the afternoon when it was much busier.

We are delighted that our guest enjoyed their visit to Spa6 and that our Spa’s reception team and qualified therapist were able to assist them with their requirements throughout the day as well as a Spa Lunch served in our 2nd floor lounge area, just one staircase from the Spa’s main treatment areas.

Whilst we do not have a jacuzzi section in our 11 metre hydro-therapy pool, designed to relax muscles and stimulates blood flow, the pool does offer mosaic tile beds to relax.

We respectfully ask that guests with children who are 16 and under can adhere to our children’s swimming times. Children under the age of 16 need adult supervision at all times in the pool and unfortunately we cannot allow children less than 2 years old to use the facilities due to the increased risks associated with the hydrotherapy elements of the pool. Children are not permitted to use the sauna and steam rooms.

We have stayed here many times and still love the place!

Couple bad points though which is a shame
- Sunday lunch doesn't seem to be what it used to
- sometimes the staff are not always helpful

However...
- Most of the time the food is fab!
- Fantastic location with some lovely walks
- lovely rooms
- very nice decor
- very picturase

We even Got married here a few year ago now and was a wonderful day and the lake view suite was amazing!

I would defiantly recommend this hotel for weddings, a weekend away, a special meal (just not on a Sunday)

Great place to go!

We are thankful to our repeat guest for taking the time to write a review and are very pleased that we were able to host their wedding at the hotel some years ago.
We are pleased that they enjoy the food we offer in our food outlets, our fantastic location, the Lake 6 walk and the rooms that we provide including our Lake View Suite

In respect of Sunday Lunch, the brasserie is very popular with both hotel guests and people that are not resident in the hotel, regularly serving 300+ people each Sunday. Our current pricing is £11.95 for three courses including a full salad bar selection, soup, roast of the day (with vegetarian alternatives) and dessert. We are sorry to learn that on this occasion our guest was not entirely happy as the majority of the feedback we have received regarding Sunday Lunch does not match the comments made here.

Spent 1 night (valentines weekend). Would struggle to stay more. Fantasic location, beautiful spa but staffed by a bunch of school leavers who acted like they didn't even complete school. Waited almost 2 hours for main course to arrive after complaining. Restaurant supervisor just sympathised with wait, never once apologising, then disappeared never to return! When food eventually arrived it was poorly cooked and had to be sent back whilst other diner had to eat theirs. Desert arrived (ice cream) and neither the fork nor spoon were able to penetrate it as it was frozen as hard as granite. Left the restaurant v v disappointed. Thought we would try breakfast and that was just as bad. Arrived at 9:45 to find a queue of at least 30 people snaking through the tables waiting for the self service hot breakfast. We were seated at a table between the queue and although you could see the staff were busy, nobody knew what was going on and the hour we sat here nobody took our order for tea and coffee. Not what you would expect of 4 star. The room (404) looked out across the car park and was simply furnished if a little dated. Not a reflection of the bar/reception area that is very smart.
Overall a very disappointing stay and had we not had a sense of humour it would have been a disaster.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the lake and preferably not on the ground floor

We are sorry this guest had a less than enjoyable stay. Whilst they were with us they raised these issues which, whilst never nice to hear, gave us the chance to do something about the shortcomings and for that we are grateful.

Like most hotels around the world, rooms do look over the grounds and parking areas. We can guarantee a lake view but have a limited number of these and there is a supplement to secure one. All of the bedrooms were built at the same time as the hotel in 2007 and by the same designer so I was surprised to see the comment that they are dated. On our website there are many pictures of the bedrooms for you to view.

I went to this hotel to have a break for a free days and recharge the batteries and I have to say it didn't fail to impress. As I arrived I was greeted with a huge car parking area with ample spaces. The entrance lobby to the hotel is fantastic with a lovely waterfall outside the doors. It was obvious from the start this hotel was high in quality. The entrance lobby was outstanding with the staff booking me in really friendly. Then the room, I stayed in a double room and as soon as I entered I was stunned. The room was clean, big in size and the view was fantastic. I was on the ground floor and directly on the lake with decking between us. The view was breathtaking even though it was the height of winter. The room had all the mod cons including tea/coffee/ hot chocolate facilities. An iron and trouser press. A hair dryer and an Internet port for the laptop. It was also complete with large blackout curtains and so sleeping was not a problem. The food in the lounge area was fantastic and amazing quality. The spa was also very good. Full access to all the facilities as a guest which included all the nice spa features, jacuzzi, stream room, dry sauna and pool. I opted to have an aroma back relief massage and wasn't disappointed, the massage itself amazing but the champagne bar where you wait for your treatment is gorgeous and relaxing. The treatment rooms are really relaxing and of high quality.
I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely consider staying again.

Room Tip: I had the ground floor but the rooms with balcony looked amazing especially in summer.

It is pleasing that our guest was impressed with the quality of accommodation and service that we provide.

We do offer an ample complimentary car parking area and guests return to us more and more to take in the breath-taking views that the complex provides us, which is spectacular in all seasons.

Our bedrooms include a working desk, complimentary wired internet connection, hairdryer, drinks facilities, direct dial telephones both by the bedside and the work desk, a complimentary safe, trouser press, iron and ironing board, toiletries and of course fluffy white towels and extra pillows.

In our upgraded rooms, our guests are able to enjoy all the same facilities with the addition of an ipod docking station, complimentary Wi-Fi, an ice bucket, a welcome drinks tray with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, sparkling & still water and a selection of deluxe toiletries alongside fluffy white bathrobes and direct access from the room to our decking around the lake or a private balcony.

We serve food in our lounge bar and Sports Lounge, brasserie and the pub on-site (The Old Boathouse) as well as offering 24 hour room service (hot food until 10pm then a selection of sandwiches)

Our Spa has a number of treatments rooms, a gym, hydrotherapy pool (not suitable for children under 2 years – please note set children’s swimming times), a sauna and steam room with the recent addition of a champagne bar for those guests enjoying treatments.

We are pleased our guests would recommend our hotel and hope that they will visit us again.

Not good value for money at £159 for one night. A tired room with badly stained carpet and grubby furniture. Dinner in brassierie ok but hardly generous portions. Breakfast delivered to the room absolutely disgusting - cold, lacking any presentation and dirty looking lids.
Pleasant staff and a fab view of the lake from the balcony.
This was meant to be a lovely Valentine surprise for my partner but it certainly didn't turn out as I had expected. We
I won't be returning even after giving feedback and the offer of another night on a special rate of £89 Inc breakfast and dinner!!!! I would still think that was overpriced based on the experience of this week.

Having already been in direct communication with our guest, we would like to apologise for the shortcomings they experienced when they stayed with us. It is clear from the feedback provided that everything was not how it should have been on the occasion of their stay and for that we apologise.

Having been through each of the areas that have been highlighted, both with our Housekeeping Manager and Food & Beverage Manager respectively. Each have undertaken to ensure these shortfalls are addressed immediately.
