As we're travellers who prefer to get out and about under our own steam (on hired scooters), we made the decision to hire Villa Julah for our two week self catering holiday back in March. We wanted to be away from the main resorts and having read up on the area and been in communication with the owner (Suzanne) regarding local amenities, we figured Nai Harn would be perfect and it was.
Our flight arrived late and luckily we had arranged a transfer with Suzanne down to the villa in the south of the island. Our driver was waiting for us and the transfer took about 40 minutes, very smooth and efficient.
The villa is located away from the main road, surrounded by five similar properties, wall secured and electronically gated. There is a property located directly behind the villa but the bamboo in the garden keeps you well shaded from sight of them.
The neighbour (Joy) met us on arrival and kindly showed us around, we were so happy with our choice. A welcome food and drink parcel was waiting for us in the fridge, which was great and saw us through until our trip to the shops in the morning.
As in the villa description, main bedroom is large with folding doors out on to the pool area, a super king sized four poster bed (rather hard, which I discussed with Susanne and she was rectifying). Large wet room with twin wash hand basin, free standing bath, WC and drench walk in shower. Off there is a walk-in wardrobe with plenty of storage. The kitchen/dining/living area is spacious and well equipped with satellite TV and wireless connection, there are two sets of folding doors leading on to the rear garden area and one set on to the pool. There is a drench shower room with wash basin and WC off the living area and next to the second large bedroom also with plenty of wardrobe/storage space, a small safe and folding doors on to the pool area. The washer and dryer and located in an outside storage cupboard, that can be accessed via the rear folding doors.
The front pool and garden area are great, four loungers, a table and four chairs on the patio. The gated carport is double and would easily fit two decent sized cars.
You need to be at one with nature here, geckos, frogs, spiders, mosquitos, dogs, cats, centipedes and no doubt, much more. The tree frogs are vocal of an evening, we loved that though and you just need to take the necessary precautions with the mosquitos, I was only bitten twice and that was whilst I was on an elephant!
Before hiring scooters on the third day of our trip, we walked to the local shops and restaurants on the main road. It took less than ten minutes and the options were great, three mini-marts, German bakery, crepe house, scooter/car hire shop selling petrol, laundrette, grocers, cash machines, local and international eateries, very convenient and less than two minutes once we had the scooters. M&Ms Italian was our favourite pizza place when we needed a break from the local cuisine.
Nai Harn beach is located nearby, we did walk on one occasion and it took about 40 minutes, 5 on the scooter. Once we had the scooters, everything else was so easily accessible. We regularly went for rides all around, Rawai, Kata, Karon, Pa Tong and got as far north east as Phuket Town. There is so much to explore, see and do. Villa Julah is the perfect place to base yourself to escape from the hustle and bustle but still have lots of great amenities nearby.
The pool cleaners came at least once a week and the villa cleaners twice a week, these visits were pre-arranged, so there were no surprises. Both did a really good job.
To finish, we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to extend our stay at the villa and managed to do this directly with Suzanne within the first week of us being out there and without any issues. I believe we arrived on 6th March for two weeks and ended up leaving just over three weeks later on 29th March.
A huge thank you to Suzanne for an amazing stay and to her neighbours Joy & Stephen for just being there if we had any queries.
Hopefully this review will provide you with all you need to know about the villa but if you have any questions, I'll be happy to help.
