A party of three, we had to seek overnight accommodation south of Rouen after a Seine Valley chambres d'hôtes booking had been cancelled by the hôtes. M. & Mme Lenoir responded positively. Their website had the look of quality (one develops a nose for these things online), & their terms were clear & precise. In an exchange of emails, they were scrupulous in their attention to detail & their willingness to help. They appraised the local restaurants for us & arranged an excellent take-out dinner from one of their recommendations. We accompanied it with a very decent Sancerre from their cellar, at a fair price.
The house is beautiful, and our rooms, attractively retrofitted to match the age of the building, are exactly as they appear on the website: spacious, tasteful & equipped with a traveller's necessities on the level of a four-star hotel: super-comfortable beds, soft towels in abundance, even scented bath salts. We had a modern tv & dvd player for entertainment if we wished, though we preferred a walk around the pleasant Norman village in one of the loveliest regions of Normandy of Belleme & an apéritif at the Café du Midi. The charm & courtesy of our hosts dissolved the potential ambiguities of the chambres d'hôtes social dynamic, leaving us quite relaxed. Breakfast was a feast, and deserves to be recognised with a photo.
To be practical & pedestrian, the price-quality ratio was impressive. Perhaps more importantly, this will remain one of the best of our many memories of travelling and staying in France.
