“Fantastic Location”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

We actually stayed in two of the properties over 4 days and the standards were incredibly different so I am trying to write two reviews. The first one we stayed in was Richmond. It was clean and comfortable and the location was great. But not all the things advertised were available like the CD/DVD player. Handy for Hobart and also very close to the airport. Peaceful and quiet.

Have never been so disappointed in accommodation in my life - to the point where we were going to forfeit our money and find alternate accomodation. This is a demountable shed ! Nothing more nothing less - with another cottage stapled to its side - privacy Nil! No welcome pack, hair in the bathroom and so tiny . This "cottage" was not even shown on their website ! Horrid

We stayed 3 nights in one of the cottages, accom was in short supply in Hobart over a long weekend. With visits to Port Arthur and Richmond the location was actually very good. The cottages are replica but the advantage of that is everything is new rather than old. The only fault is there was no coffee supplied, just some tea bags. The bed was a bit soft as well.

The riversdale cottages are in a lovely position but the cottages supposedly French inspired had a couple of stickers of the Eiffel Tower inside and a chandelier and "French inspired" furniture in what was a demountable cottage! Advertised as 2 bedroom but the queen sized bed was in the living room .no cupboard in the bedroom. No welcome pack as advertised and a 2 cm piece of soap.there was no information about the wines or the area and overall a very disappointing experience.

Stayed in 'Roberts' cottage for 4 nights recently as family (2 adults, 1 little boy). Certainly a beautiful cottage and surrounds (my wife loved the French styling). Roberts is the first of the cottages and is wonderfully sited - it faces away from the other cottages and the 'business' part of the vineyard giving a beautiful view through the front door and windows and great privacy. The cottage was exceptionally clean, very well appointed and very large inside. As others have noted, it is not really a two bedroom as the main 'bedroom' is really more of an alcove adjoining the lounge room (kitchen, living area and bedroom make a fat 'L'). We did not see or speak to our hosts at all in the time we were there although I did receive very good directions via email and a phone msg a few days later to make sure I'd received them. We arrived rather late at night (thank God for GPS! - We never would have made it otherwise!) and didn't really notice much in the area until morning when we discovered a HUGE radio telescope overlooking the vineyard! Fantastic! It belongs to the University of Tasmania and the operators were good enough to give us a bit of a private tour. Well worth while!

I was so disappointed I almost cried! Seriously it is nothing like The "Robert" etc
Basically this is what we were presented with:
1 small bottle of shampoo for a 3 night stay for 2 people.
No salt and pepper. NO soap!!?? Truly NO soap.
The place was really dusty, floors were filthy, countertops and bathroom sink had to be cleaned before use. Broken leg on one arm chair. Telephone sockets pulled out of the walls.
4 fantastic points - Great bed, one very lovely view, very quiet and close to Hobart!!!
We were given a good deal from Wotif and now I know why.

After coming out of the three day Frenchman's cap hike we found ourselves returning to Hobart on the hottest recorded day in Tasmanian history with three bushfires blazing and absolutely NO accommodations available as people were fleeing the fires. Wendy, completely over booked with other fire refugees, graciously offered to set us up in the wine cellar for the night or even to pitch a tent on the grounds and gave us use of the office facilities for a toilet and shower. She even offered us a bottle of wine. I wish I could have seen one of the cottages but the setting is beautiful and I'd be happy to stay there again under more normal circumstances.
