“Best Vacation”

If you are looking for a resort in the Cancun area check out this resort. This was my husband and I's 4th trip to the Cancun area. We have always stayed at an all inclusive resort. We have always been happy but each trip we looked for some place new. Our looking is over we just spent 4 nights at Excellence Playa Mujeres. We stayed in the Excellence Club area in building 8. Everything was wonderful. There wasn't a thing that we did not like. The service was great, the food was great, the shows were great. Did I mention that this was a great place? The spa was also really nice. We did a couples massage with the hyrdotherpy before. My husband is not a spa person and really enjoyed it. We had a great vacation and cannot wait to go back. If you get a chance you have got to check this place out.

Room Tip: 2nd story rooms, building 8a or 8b have fabulous ocean views.

This resort offers everything an all inclusive adults only place could offer. There's options for different daily events, water sports, or paid excursions, but you can also just sit by the pool or ocean all day.

We enjoyed the frequent visits of the wait staff by the pool to take our drink orders; if you're in the pool around lunch time, a cart will roll by and offer you a daily dish to eat so you don't even have to get up or out of the pool.

The staff is very friendly and always smiling. The location is gorgeous. The entire resort is very safe and extremely well maintained.

Our friends and my husband and I definitely look forward to going back to this resort in the future.

Room Tip: The swim up rooms seem like a neat idea, but if you plan to leave the pool in front of your room, th...

My now husband and I went to Excellence Playa Mujeres for our honeymoon. We stayed for 10 days and enjoyed almost every moment of it- the only reason I say almost is because our first two days were rainy and overcast. We weren't aware we were traveling there during rainy season.. The resort is absolutely beautiful but unfortunately there are not many activities to keep you occupied if it’s raining out! We were left staring at each other, trying to think of things to do.. we ended up taking advantage of the nice gym on the premise and also ordering lots of Room Service.

Every restaurant was an amazing treat, we tried them all- but our favorites were the french restaurant, and the thai/japanese... Chez Isabelle & Spice. The wait staff and bartenders were all very respectful and kind to us.. and much appreciated the small tips my husband would give at the end of each meal, or after a drink was served.

Each night the resort would have some sort of show usually around 9 or 9.30pm.. since we stayed more than a week, we realized they rotated them every 7 days. Our absolute favorites were the Michael Jackson show (the dancer/imitator was amazing!) and also a fire show they had in the courtyard area at night.. very neat!

The only negative point (besides the weather which they had no control over), that we ran into- was the staff they had manning the tennis courts/bicycle area.. Each time my husband and I tried to take advantage of one of the day activities, either playing tennis when it was overcast, or going for a bike ride- we were (kind of rudely) turned away by the staff there- each time with a lame excuse of why we could play tennis, or why we wouldn’t be able to go on the bike ride. Other than this one person- every member of the staff was GREAT!

While in Playa Mujeres we booked, through the desks in the lower lobby, 2 excursions, and also took advantage of the JetSki's for rent on the beach.. We did two excursions, Selvatica zip lining, atv's and Cenote Swim- which we loved! And 2nd a Catamaran "booze cruise", snorkeling day trip, boat ride to Isla Mujeres. We strongly recommend the catamaran ride.. we booked it with Albatros- and they were wonderful! Just be prepared for a fun time with strangers, and also to be "tossed into" snorkeling in the middle of the ocean... They gave us lunch on Isla Mujeres and also took us for a short shopping trip on the island, which was just enough time to get some souvenirs.

All in all, my husband and I will be back to Cancun.. maybe not Playa Mujeres (as we heard the beach there was nothing special compared to the rest of the Mayan Riviera).. but definitely to another Excellence resort- maybe Punta Cana next.. This resort is perfect for couples and honeymooners looking for a remote, desolate area to relax- it was a bit of a drive from the attractions- but worth being in a private section of Cancun.

One last note- I want to say, this place was immaculate! Every day they had workers out maintaining the property, doing repairs and cleaning.. we never saw a mess anywhere and were very pleased with how the room was kept in pristine condition.. The only area we were a little grossed out by was the Roof-Top Terrace part of our room where they had two "beds/couches"- with the rain and moisture- some pillows left out were covered in mildew/mold.. but I guess that’s sort of hard to avoid with the humidity like they have there... OK that’s all- have a great trip!!

Beautiful, great staff, great food, great entertainment. Mujeres definitely a step up. Excellence Club worth the extra money, just do it. You want Bldg 8! Make sure you request it. The staff in the Club Room, Carolina was especially helpful, are great. The staff at the beach, another Carolina that gets your towels, and makes up your lounger is just delightful. Yara, our server on the beach is outstanding and hardworking, and so personable. The bar staff everywhere are great. Did not make it to the swim up bar...don't know why. It was always busy though!
Would go again in a heartbeat!

Make sure you try the India restaurant, Basmati. Different, but beautiful, and great food and I am not a big fan but it was one of the best meals. Ask about the weeks events. You get a daily news letter, but we missed a great Mexican party because we did not know and we ate in the Mexican restaurant the night before. Don't miss the lunches on the beach, some very different things and the cooking lessons were fun, and you got lunch first!!

Room Tip: If you pay for Excellence Club you want to make sure you are in Bldg 8 facing the private pool. You...

My two friends and I arrived on October 13 for an 8 day stay here. We had great expectations because we had visited the Excellence in Punta Cana last year for my 50th birthday. Well, our expectations were not just met, but were surpassed. The people here are so helpful, kind and friendly! They go out of their way to make sure you have everything you want and need. The food was very good...some of the best we had ever had. We loved the mexican food and the omelettes in the breakfast buffet. The pizzas were awesome as well. OK--staff...you are amazing. Raul-the bartender that would have drinks for us as we came around the bend of the lazy river. You were so sweet to us. Jorge-the disco bartender--we will never forget the long island iced teas you kept making us....delicious. Eric-the DJ in the disco-dancing with you was a blast and you played GREAT music...we were sad the night you weren't there. Cesar in the bar-you were a sweetheart and your drinks never disappointed. The ladies at the Lobster House and Toscana that greeted us were always so nice. This place is amazing and we had such a great time. We didn't have one complaint and we plan on coming back. Our room was in building 2 and it was a three minute walk to the beach...so don't let the lazy people scare you off. It was quiet and our sunset views were beautiful. We never had trouble getting a chair or shade on the beach. We LOVE it here and you will too.

My husband and I had a wonderful one-week vacation at Excellence Playa Mujeres in June 2012. We have already stayed at Excellence Punta Cana twice in the past but this was our first visit to Playa Mujeres. Even though we did enjoy our vacations at EPC, we felt that EPM was newer and more modern and we really liked the feel of it.

We thoroughly enjoyed the food and ate twice at Spice, Agave & Chez Isabelle and once at The Grill (all for dinner). We either ate at the buffet or ordered room service for breakfast and both options were really good. We really enjoyed ordering food and being able to sit on our balcony with the amazing view of the ocean. We were in building 8b and enjoyed the location as we could easily walk down to get chairs by the Excellence Pool behind the building. Andrea, our Excellence Club attendant, treated us like a king & queen and always checked on us throughout the day to see if there was anything we needed. Adan, the bartender at Cielo, knew our drinks after the first day and continued to serve them to us, even when we were in the pool! He was always checking on us and making sure we were filled with alcohol!

Some notable waiters were Carlos at Agave. His timing was excellent and he was a very nice guy (along with refilling our chips & guacamole). We returned to Agave a second time and requested to sit in his section, and, again, enjoyed his service. We also really liked Orlando at The Grill. When we told him we were from the New York area, he kept singing New York, New York to us for the rest of the night. We had lots of laughs with him.

During the day, we stayed by the pool and did have some of the freshly-made pizzas by the main pool, which we thought were very good. Some days, we just ordered some light items from Adan at Cielo to hold us over to dinner after eating a late and big breakfast. At night, after dinner, we saw some of the shows...enjoyed the Michael Jackson and the fire show - we plan to try to see more shows next year. We then usually sat at the Martini bar and enjoyed the bartenders there.

We also had great service before we arrived as I had contacted Rubi from the concierge desk with some questions and she was so helpful to us before and during our stay. She was truly a pleasure to deal with. All in all, from housekeeping to drink service to meal service, everyone was EXCELLENT!

We got on the plane home and had already decided we would be coming back! We haven't changed our minds as we just booked 9 nights in May/June of next year! We can't wait to return!!!

Our stay at Excellence Playa Mujeres during September 2012 was even better than our previous 5 x 14 night stays at the resort. How the staff continue to find ways to maintain and improve upon excellence experience is well beyond our comprehension.

We were treated as VIP's from start to finish and were thrilled to be met on arrival by Mariana Lojero the guest service manager (now chief concierge). She is like a little whirlwind - and is constantly seen around the resort checking with guests that their experiences are what they desire and arranging special surprises to make trips more memorable! Virginia Amador, now General Manager, also remains very hands on and like Mariana is frequently seen around the resort interacting with the guests. What a great team!

We were delighted that many of the hotel staff remembered us and welcomed us back home again. This said, on this trip more than previous ones, we were aware of a number of staff changes but in spite of this all the staff we met were hard working and willing to please... and importantly we never during our 14 night trip heard the word "no". We never felt like a tip was expected and irrespective of tips we truely received great service- usually promptly and always with a smile.

The bar service and pool/beach service was great - top end liquors included. Service in the restaurants can be slow at busy times - but hey whats the rush when you are on holiday! The food in all of the restaurants we believe, was improved upon our previous trips with the exception of the dishes we chose for ourselves in the Toscana. These were average at best. The food in the Basmati was awesome!

We were gifted with a very nice room upgrade for which we remain very grateful. Our room was so lovely - well maintained and in a peaceful part of the resort. We re-visited the spa this trip and although prices were more expensive than we generally pay in the UK - the overall spa experience and quality of our massages was exemplary !

The resort continues to retain the fresh appearance we loved on our first visit there (which was shortly after the resort opened). Our room and the public areas (including the pools) were clean and well maintained. The gardens are becoming increasingly more verdant each visit thanks to the love and attention provided to them by the hardworking groundsmen. The gym was well equipped with cross trainers/weights/bikes/treadmills etc. We did observe during our first week that the room was pretty hot even at 6am - however a quick conversation with Mariana rapidly resulted a call to maintenance & in the rectification of this issue.

On a strictly personal note: If there was one thing I would change if I could, this would be the cessation of inappropriate topless female sunbathing (including one female topless & in a VERY brief thong walking into the martini bar during the day) - I am not a prude but personally I believe this serves to lowers the tone of the resort.
Cover them up girls please - mystery is the key!
