It is impossible to criticize the beauty and luxury of this resort - it is GORGEOUS. The rooms (we are in a one-bedroom apt) are sumptuous and large and the restaurants (esp on all inclusive plan) are excellent. The downsides are obvious - particularly in that the property is not sure if it is a timeshare or a hotel. Generally, if you visit right now - you are getting a good deal because the place is seeking to get people in the door and then pressure them into sales. If you can AVOID this, you'll enjoy yourself.

A word to the wise: If you think you are going to the hotel, you will expect the front-desk folks to aid you and have information. On the contrary, this resort pushes you to work with the concierges, who are not concierges at all - they are high-pressure, low-class time-share artists. It is a shame this resort straddles the edge between timeshare-hotel. I've been to other hotels that do part-time as timeshares (the westin in cancun, for example), and as a hotel-stayer, I felt like I was at a hotel. Here, you'll do fine if you avoid the concierges at all costs.

Overall, we had a BLAST. We tipped a TON at meals and bars - as all service and meals were great - and we felt we got a great deal. The beach is not as beautiful as at Cancun (not sure why)... but we had a luxurious visit and a blast visiting Isla Mujeres. I would go again.. .but would be prepared to be irritated by the avoid-the-conceirge issue.

We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful resort immensely. The only misstep occurred at the check-in where we thought we had paid $140 for an upgrade to an ocean-view high floor room. But we ended up having to pay $20 more and got to the 4th floor with a meager ocean view. This occurred even though we noticed that few rooms were lit up in Bldg 3, where we initially wanted to be. An additional $160 barely got us above the trees on the 4th floor.
We took the high speed ferry to the Playa Mujeres, where we enjoyed quaint great food at the recommended off-the beaten path cafes by Trip Advisor -- Bahia Tortugues and Mango's. Their modest exterior belied the fine food inside. Neither disappointed -- great coconut French toast at Mango's and Ronda and Danny were special hosts at the Bahia. We also had an exceptional waiter at the Villa del Palmar Davino's Restaurant, Adrian Vazquez. Even on days when he wasn't our waiter he offered to help us when we visited the restaurant later. The staff at the resort worked exceptionally hard to fulfill every request.

We spent 8 days at Villa Del Palmar Cancun and loved it!! The rooms and grounds were gorgeous and well kept. The bartender Adrien was awesome! He remembered our names and our favorite drinks. We met wonderful people at the resort as well. The food at the snack bar was delicious. The restaurants were nice also, offering a good variety of foods. We had no issues staying at the resort all day every day, because it was so very relaxing. We are proud to be owners. :-)

Room Tip: We stayed on the 4th floor on building 2. It was very convenient and had a great view of the grounds, as well as the ocean.

We spent 2 weeks at Villa Del Palmar Cancun and enjoyed it. The resort is absolutely beautiful with the amenities in the rooms. The rooms were spacious with full kitchens and each unit had its own laundry. The decks were huge and we had a spectacular view of the ferry and waterfront, plus we were overlooking the whole resort. We found for a new resort, that there were not enough restaurants to give any choices....it would be fine for a 1 week staIy, but for 2 weeks it became repetitive. The Italian restaurant and Mexican restaurant were amazing, and the waiters were very helpful. The beach snack bar service and food was very good too. The Steak house and Japanese restaurant had very poor service and the communication was even worse. These latter 2 restaurants could have been a great experience with the right people working there to help and explain the menu. Resort definitely needs more restaurants, if it wants to be so far out of town. It is set up for a time share situation, but really kitchen stuff like pans and dishes were minimal and had to request a coffer maker bigger than the 2 cup that was in room. The maids were great! We would think about going back for the eating reasons, and the time of year. We had a tropical rain storm for 4 days and too far from town to do much....but once weather changed beach is great and resort is beautiful...Beds were comfortable as well

Room Tip: I would suggest any room slightly higher up to the sides,,we were on the right side of resort and did not see much sun on the deck, if in the main building you would need to be high to see the water.. Pretty near all rooms had a water view, and all had decks....all rooms were easy to get around the resort from
