“Cared for us!”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

We travel a lot and this was probably our 12th time in MX, 3rd time at a VDP in MX and our 1st time in Cancun. We just came back from 5 nights of extreme relaxation. We rented a 2 bedroom/3bath ocean view room. My husband and I took 2/3 adult children with us. Our adult daughter has health issues and needs to use a wheelchair at times. The resort was very accommodating physically and actually emotionally. We needed some assistance with a financial issue and the legal staff were AMAZING! Also, the service staff were 100% on top of their jobs. The food was very good to excellent at every meal. And everything was with a "my pleasure". The spa was so different and relaxing. We all had massages and were happy! The concierge helped a lot when we needed information on going to the hotel zone and Isla Mujeres. The only negative, if it was a negative, was the seaweed on the sand. The facility is very new but did have some water damage in our rooms. It was a slower time of year so the facility was definitely on the quiet side, but that is why I booked it out of the hotel zone. That is exactly what we were looking for. We will go back!

Room Tip: The food and bars are close to the ocean.

This was our second trip to Villa del Palmar Cancun, the first was while it was still in the construction phase two years ago. We had wanted to see how the resort would be when completed. We loved how even though construction was going on there was a peaceful vibe with excellent service two yrs ago. This time the resort was packed with guests seeming over capacity and while all the staff we encountered were very nice I don't think they could always keep up. So this was the situation and the cause for all the issues we ran into for 7 of our 12 days.

Arriving at the Cancun airport was for the first time a breeze however at hotel check in we waited 45min at the counter.. with no one ahead of us and continually being told someone will be right with us. The irritating part was that while we patiently waited a bus load of guests were dropped off and escorted to the counter and were immediately able to check in. Of course our room wasn't ready even though ck-in is at 3pm we were asked to come back at 5pm. Since we were AI bracelets were given to us to enjoy a meal while we waited for our room. Another hr waiting but now in the hot sun to get a table at the snack shack. We ran into a problem because a room number is needed since you need sign the bill to your room and we didn't have a room yet. We decided kill time and head guest services to get a map of the resort and find out about the new restaurants ~we were greeted and told they would be right back and be with us ~we then waited 45mins for the rep to return. Upon returning he informed us that our trip rep was expecting us at the lobby bar to confirm return airport pick ups. We found him and started this process when he was interrupted by a guest that said she has been waiting for him her entire trip so he excused himself to attend to her. I was on vacation I didn't want to argue so again patiently waited only to loose it when approaching the front desk for the third time and being asked to wait for our room another half hr. I had noted that it was 2 1/2hrs after ck-in -would it be acceptable for me to ck-out 2 1/2hrs late without paying the late ck-out fee? A manager appeared and magically was able to find an available room that was exactly what we had reserved.

Another issue we had was the restaurants. There is a buffet a very small one (that is actually Zama during the day) and reservations are required. The seating for the buffet is actually smaller than the a la carte. I have never been to an AI where we were not able to eat at the buffet so we had to go again to the snack shack and wait for a table to open up or have room service. Our last visit here had a buffet a large and very good one where no reservations were required for breakfast lunch and dinner. The next morning we waited an hr along side many other guests in the hot sun to get a table at the breakfast buffet (that is actually Davino's at night). Seeing how this was going be we made reservations for dinner. They allow you to make reservations two days in advance and we were stuck with room service for a few nights as even buffet was booked up. If you are not on able to make your reservations as soon as they open up you are stuck with the most undesirable times for dinner. All of this is really such a shame because all the food and drinks we had at all the restaurants was very good (esp the asian). Another issue was that several evenings we came back to our room not being cleaned or not having the mini fridge replenished after 5pm. We would have to call and wait or just get fresh towels so we didn't have to leave our room so it could be cleaned. Also room key had trouble, came back one day to a random person INSIDE our room said he was responding to a call even though we didn't make one, dishes from room service not being picked up.. ect.

The second half of our trip was better as guests left and the demand on the staff was less. The beach looks beautiful and so much cleaner than last time. The new pools and spa is really nice and in general it was amazing to see what was accomplished in terms of how unfinished it was when we first arrived. It was such a shame that we really couldn't enjoy it. We were more stressed from the start of our trip than the busy lives and jobs we came on vacation to take a break from. This has left a bad taste in our mouths for the Villa group as a whole.

My wife and I took our two kids with us for a week and had an unbelievably smooth and wonderful vacation. The apartment was so big another couple came with us and slept in the separate room and either side heard hardly a peep unless we wanted to. Only one recommendation: review your bill very carefully when you leave - one of the waiters charged one of my tips several times to the tune of $42. What a sour taste that leaves in your mouth on the plane home!

We are a Sheraton/Westin family and I wanted to take a break from the chaotic Cancun scene and try something new. I was not disappointed. We arrived at our hotel earlier than our check in time and we were able to eat lunch and change into bathing suits to enjoy the pool. The rooms were clean and spacious for a family of four. We had hoped the sofa was a pull out but our kids opted for sleeping on it anyways. The pools were quiet with plenty of chairs. At other places, you have to wake up at the crack of dawn to get a good spot near the pool. It was relaxing! SO quiet. Our kids were entertained by the kids club and while we spent the day at the pool. The evening activities were great and we all enjoyed the entertainment provided by the hotel staff. We are coming back in the near future.

PROS: Beautiful resort, clean and beautiful room. Check in was quick. We stayed in the 1 bedroom suite for a week. The suite had a master bedroom, 2 bathrooms, 2 showers, clothes washer and dryer, dining room, living room, a murphy bed in the living room, full kitchen, large outdoor patio with a table for 4 and a large hammock, and an indoor jacuzzi tub. On site restaurants are very good and the pools and outdoor jacuzzis are beautiful, very relaxing and fun. There are a lot of planned activities througout the resort. We did not get the all inclusive but did get the free breakfast and a room credit and at the time we checked out the bill was correct and was very reasonable. The breakfast was extraordinary. Staff was cordial and professional. Bar crowd is fun!
CONS: Indoor water has a slight odor, can't really use in room jacuzzi due to the odor of the water. Indoor water does not heat up. Timeshare presentation is brutal. 1st salesmen appear to be newbies and are shaky, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th salesmen are very exceptional pros. The beach has white sands but beach is rocky, no waves, and you have to wear some Teva-like sandals to get in. We had to go to the Islas de las Mujeres to snorkel, zip-line, and swin in the beautiful clear pristine waters seen in travel adds. If you want a drink you need walk up to the bar, waiter service for drinks on the beach and pool is extremely slow.
OVERALL: Very good vacation, rested, had a lot of fun, and enjoyed the staff, other guests, and my family. My family and I hung at the beach and pools most of the day and sometimes late into the wee hours. I will definitely come back again. Pros outweigh the Cons and the Cons are minimal.

We booked an all inclusive package for our anniversary at the Villa Del Palmar Resort. Check in was fairly simple. We were given a summary of the amenities offered at the resort and an option to receive discounts on tickets for tours by attending a time share presentation, which we declined. Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable with a spectacular view of the garden area and ocean from our balcony. The hammock was a nice touch as well. There was a bottle of wine chilling in our room upon arrival.. The frig was stocked daily with bottled water and snacks. A heart was assembled on our bed with fresh flower pedals and lit candles were placed around the room, creating a romantic atmosphere for our anniversary. The chocolate covered strawberries and wine added a personal touch .The restaurants offered a wide variety of well prepared and tasty meals with an accommodating and pleasant staff. Dinner reservations for7:00 to 9:00 fills up quickly so we recommend booking a day or two early. The beach are was beautiful with beach chairs, towels and cabanas included in the package. Kayaks, snorkeling equipment and paddleboards were also included on a first come basis. The beach service was great with very little wait time for your drinks. We would certainly return again In the future.

Room Tip: The upper floors in the middle section has the best views

This is a beautiful place the beach is right outside the hotel. The downside to this place is that as a member you will be charged a certain amount daily which they don't tell you when you sign up with them not that I mind but it bothered me that they did not mentioned it when I became a member. The staff is not friendly or proactive. I didn't try their food only a few drinks which were pretty good. Also I rented a car and I had a hard time finding this place and got lost a couple of times after that because is far away from other hotels.

Room Tip: Confirmed your reservation directly ahead of time.
