First off, we went here a year ago and wrote a review about our experience at that time. They unfortunately got off on a premature start and had many hurdles to overcome. Well overcome they did! We had the most wonderful experience this time.

The place has always been exceptionally beautiful. The rooms are elegant, comfortable and well appointed. You want for nothing. We had a one bedroom suite that was just a terrific time to come back to each day. The wonderful housekeeping staff had the room clean and fresh each by by about noon. Full kitchen (although if you have all inclusive you won't need to use it as the food is very good, more on that later). Two full bathrooms and washer/dryer combo which we made full use of.

Last time the food was lacking dismally. This time, wow. We made use of each restaurant and were not disappointed. Favourite was Hiroshi. The chef Juan Carlos is obviously very gifted. I LOVED the food there. They're lucky to have him. The staff at all the restaurants seem to have pride in their work and are happy to be accommodating. Lovely people and they deserve a tip. Do so generously. Adrian at Davino went the extra mile, saw I was shivering at dinner outside and brought me a wrap. He is a wonderful warm man, I was happy to make his acquaintance and hope to met him again.

They now have shuttles into town which they did not have before. Very nice touch. Saves a lot of money back and forth to town and they were quite punctual, clean and convenient. One to both major malls (quite expensive places and not much to buy for the average joe).

One plus I would suggest, walk to the right out of the gate and ask to get into the gates of The Beloved resort. The guard will let you in to look around. It is a beautiful (long) walk. Take sunscreen. Lovely iguana and bird spotting along the way. Worth the "snoop".

Lots of young families with kids there (we did not travel with any) but it is extremely well appointed for kids, safe, and accommodating, not a place to go if you are a partier or want a kid free environment.

All in all, I was sad to leave. I would whole heartedly endorse this place. Go! Go now!

Room Tip: Go for the one bed suite if your budget is able. So worth it!!!!

Absolutely can't say enough about this place. We were extremely happy with everything. My wife and I went without our kids this time and even though it's not adults only we did not feel like it took anything away from our vacation. We did sit through a 2 hour meeting the first day but had complete power to opt out of it. They gave us a $60 coupon plus a VIP card giving us 30% off spa services to sit through the presentation. The spa is absolutely first rate and extremely reasonable w/ the 30% off and coupon. The staff was excellent and very friendly. We stayed in the 900 square foot 1-bedroom and it was by far the nicest room I've ever experienced. Fresh linens daily, room service w/ a great menu and a hammock on the balcony facing the ocean. The check in took 30 minutes but we didn't think that was a big deal at all. The same concierge, Laura, was available every day we were there and facilitated everything we needed - booking reservations at the restaurants, helping us w/ an excursion and getting us back to the airport on time. We spent hours and hours pouring over all-inclusive resorts all over Mexico, Dominican Republic, etc. We read the reviews on Villa del Palmar only to find similar reviews to everything else we were looking at - there were some really good ones and extremely bad ones, so we were very conflicted. I can't speak for anyone else's reviews but everything we experienced at the resort was top notch and everyone we met said the same things!!

Room Tip: It doesn't seem like there is a bad room in the place. However, the price difference between th...

My husband and I were a little nervous about visiting this resort after reading some of the (whining) reviews. Please don't pay attention to the bad reviews or complaints. This resort is amazing. The rooms were beautiful and views were great even if you didn't have an ocean front view. Davino's restaurant was great and the food at the bar was pretty good as well. (Just remember to make reservations for each night and you will be treated like royalty or if you don't have reservations at any of the restaurants, you can just walk up and have a seat at the BITE Bar, no reservations needed. There are tables and chairs at the Bite Bar, Just like a restaurant but you will just be sitting with a better ocean view). The time share presentation was not all that bad, it was not your typical presentation, but it was just a tour of the resort's best suites and rooms. You can decide for yourself if you would like to become a member of the resort or not but if not, they will leave you alone to enjoy the rest of your vacation. The pools were amazing and yes this is more of a family resort, but if you are there to have a good time all of the minor things like, having to sign after each meal or drink will not bother you, (you have to sign if you were any were else at a bar or restaurant when you’re done eating or drinking.) The service was great and the staff worked really hard to make sure we had an amazing stay. Each night there was entertainment and we really had a great time. Vacation is what you make it and the staff at The Villa Del Palmar made our vacation stay a memorable one. We will visit again next year! This place is beautiful!

Room Tip: Very clean and updated room. Beautiful and comfortable beds

We travelled March 27 - April 3, 2013 with our 2 children, 5 & 7. We had an amazing week. The first day we arrived it was chilly. Since it was only 10:30 a.m. our room was not ready. The bartenders at the swing bar tried to warm us up with their amazing cocktails! The Rum Runner is a must try. They also make great Bloody Caesar's.

Our room wasn't ready until 5 p.m. but was well worth the wait. We were 2808. It is on the 8th floor right in the middle with an amazing view of the entire resort. We had the 1 bedroom suite. It was great to have the extra space, and not have everyone crammed into one room. Room service was slow, but worth it. Best Creme Brule ever! We had 2 dinners in our room. Balcony with the hammock was great. Best air conditioning we have ever had at a hotel. It was freezing cold. You can control it with the thermostat beside the bed. Room was cleaned spotless each day, and fresh towels and linens provided. It was damp and a little musty, but that comes with the territory, so no sense complaining. The washer/dryer was a huge plus. You can bring less luggage, and we used it to dry our bathing suites and towels every night. Snacks were provided everyday in our fridge.

Food: We thought it was fantastic. Sushi was amazing, and we ate there twice. Tenderloin at the steakhouse was like a baseball steak from the Keg, (for all the Canadian's out there). Davino's and Zama were ok. Breakfast had a lot of choices. The omelette was oily though. Tonnes of fruit choices, and the lady behind the glass would deep fry the most delicious thing. (I can't remember what it was called). It had spinach, chicken, and cheese. It was topped with sour cream, feta cheese, and a chili sauce of sorts. This buffet opened at 6:30 a.m., but if you were any later, you had to wait for a bit to be seated. Zama's buffet was also good, but needs to open at the same time as the other. The Bit Bar was amazing. We ate pool side for lunch every day. You have to have the fish burger and coconut shrimp. The caesar salad and goat cheese salad were very tasty. Service is a little slow, because they just don't have enough staff.

Towel game is huge at this resort both by the pool and on the beach. It's a shame really. Also a shame when people take up lounge chairs for every person in their family, regardless whether they are going to use them. Our kids barely get out of the pool to eat, so they don't need a lounge chair. For the 10 minutes a day they use it, they can sit on the bottom of ours!

Kids Club had activities scheduled every hour. Our kids went a few times, and enjoyed themselves.

We went over to the island. We walked across the road and flagged down the local bus/van; $3 American for the 4 of us, or 6 pesos each. We received change when we paid pesos. We took the fast ferry over and back and it was just over $40. We also rented the golf cart from a guy at the ferry terminal. We felt this was easier than wandering streets and price comparing when we got there. It was $45 for the day, and we were provided with a map and directions of exactly where to pick up the cart. They keep your driver's license for the day. The cart was brand new and had a cover on it. Visit the turtle place. $3/person. You can pet the turtles and there is a guy there who will show you a variety of sea life that you can touch and hold. Great for the kids. Also a great look out spot on the south end. It is beautiful, but if you want to walk to the end, they charge you $3 each. We just used our zoom lens. You must stop at a little bar on the side of a hill called The Joint. It's a Jamaican themed bar. 4 beer, chips and guacamole for $10 or $100 pesos. I wish we had eaten lunch here. We had lunch at the restaurant on the north beach. I don't remember the name but it was mediocre. You can also zip line on the island. We felt very safe the whole day including taking public transportation.

All in all it was a great week. We will return one day. We were not bugged by time share people. Yes you have to sign. We ran tabs every day. Not a big deal. You are on vacation! It was interesting to see how much we would have spent if not all inclusive!

So different from last year..... This year there is no buffet (breakfast, lunch and dinner). When you go to the restaurant for a À La Carte meal with your spouse, you have the impression that you are at the buffet; it was very noisy, the waiters were running so much because of the line-up waiting to get in. We must say that the quality of the food was most impressive, especially with the WOW cook at the DaVino restaurant. A perfect mix of Italian and Greek menu. This year, no cards for the beach towels. What is the result? Lots of people get double towels, and reserve double chairs. So ya better get up REAL early to get a spot. The rooms are very nice and clean, and the service is very good. This is gearing up to be more of a family oriented hotel, so adults looking for a quiet time and a bit of romance ...... well, you might be disappointed.

Room Tip: Stories 1 to 3 are considered Garden View; 4 and up are Ocean View. Try to stay away from section 1...

Just returned from a wonderful Spring Break holiday at Villa del Palmar, Cancun. We read many reviews before going and were not sure what to expect. But we found an amazing deal via cheapcaribbean.com that we couldn't pass up. We are a family of 5, with children ages 10, 7 and 5...and as families of 5 know, it is often hard to find a hotel that will allow 5 in one room. This hotel was beautiful! The room (one bedroom suite) was perfect for our family. My husband and I had our own room and bathroom and in the main living area there was a murphy bed and couch where the kids slept, and they had their own bathroom as well. The washer/dryer came in handy too! Housekeeping kept our room looking immaculate and always restocked our fridge w/ drinks and snacks each day. The size of the hotel was perfect for us. With four choices of pools for the kids, as well as the ocean...they were entertained each day and all day long by swimming and searching for shells in the ocean. We didn't use the kid's club at all. My husband and I could lay in chairs on the beach and felt comfortable if our kids were up swimming at the pool together out of our eyesight (they're all good swimmers!) We were worried about having to make reservations and there being a dress code for dinner. But it turned out to not be a problem. You just had to make a phone call and could book up to 3 nights in advance. We also used room service for one dinner and breakfast, and it was wonderful!! The dress code turned out to be a positive too. There's a reason for the dress code...the restaurants are fabulous with amazing food, and how often do you get to dress up a little with your family and eat a 4 course meal together? It was such a treat! We especially appreciated Juan's personality at Davino's! There was always a short wait for the breakfast buffet at Davino's, but it was never more than 10 minutes and was nothing even my 5 year old couldn't handle (in fact my 5 year old's behavior outshined some of the adults we saw that are clearly used to getting what they want, when they want it). Overall, the place was beautiful, our room was awesome, we had great service and enjoyed all of the food. Signing bills was not a problem for us. We only tipped with cash, so it was just a matter of filling in name and room #. My only reason for not giving this place 5 stars? We stayed at Dreams Puerto Aventures 2 years ago. And the one thing that Villa del Palmar was lacking that Dreams had were spectacular evening shows and specific activities for kids that everyone was aware of. At Dreams they did things like put water balloons in the kids pool. The kid's club staff were out and about doing kid's activities like roasting s'mores on the beach (and all kid's were invited, even if you weren't officially signed in for kid's club). They had kid's movies on a big screen on the beach at night, as well as X-box connect on a big screen after dinner. It was such a treat at the end of the day to sit on the beach and watch a movie together, or an amazing show (big spectacle on the beach)...water, light, fire, etc. shows and they involved the kids by giving them glow sticks or blown up balloons. We missed that at Villa del Palmar, and just ended up going back to our room after dinner and putting in a movie on our DVD player for the kids. It's definitely a family friendly resort, away from the Hotel Zone and crazy "Spring Break" crowd...and if they added some of the aforementioned activities it would be a 5 star place for us and we'd return again and again! In summary...unbelievable overall experience for the price!!

Room Tip: View gets better as you go up. 8th floor worked for us!

We went in March 2013 and the air conditioning was very poor in the room. Also, the hotel is an all inclusive. The food was horrible and the last day I got very sick! I ate a salad near the pool and I guess the lettuce wasn't washed with clean water. I wouldn't go back to this hotel.
